| The post about the Florida judge made me think - I hear a lot of talk about how DC women in genders just aren’t attractive. Perhaps I’ve lived here too long to notice, but what does the average, non attractive DC woman actually look like / what are her beauty habits? I lived in Texas in my youth and agree women from places like that put a lot into their appearance. I just don’t find DC women all that slovenly, though. |
Op here. General, not genders. |
| I think DC women are fine. I think the reputation comes from a place of not doing a lot of hair dye, fillers, and cleavage. We’re thin and wear grey. |
| This isn’t a city that values fashion and looks. Take a look at any thread describing makeup and what people where. There’s an overwhelming number of women that post that they don’t wear any make up, or style their hair, wear nail polish, etc. |
| So many things, but it's mainly CLOTHING. |
| This isn't LA, overdone women look out of place here. |
+1, this. went to NYC recently and noticed how much better-dressed women are there. |
This. We just don't spend as much time/effort/money on clothes, hair, etc. My cousin works in NYC for a non profit. She is also a mom of two little ones and works from home and is still impeccably dressed in dresses etc. Helps that shes tall and thin but she spends way more effort and $ than me on clothes. |
What types of stuff does she wear and where does she shop? |
| Attractive women are the minority everywhere, not just DC |
|
Yes it's clothing and I think we don't have any industries in DC that are about looks. NYC and LA you see ridiculously beautiful people strolling around at times. They are models, actors, or wannabe models and actors.
Those are the only 2 cities where I consistently notice people are better looking than average. |
| I think DC really lacks a type that you can point to as DC attractive. NYC has chic and put together. LA has a different fashion sense, but still a very put together look. Florida has skin and copious plastic surgery. The south has the Southern preppy beach look... DC just really doesn't have a type |
| Also, Miami. Everyone looks good there too |
The most attractive women that I see walking around are when I'm in Denver, but my type is athletic and outdoorsy |

Obesity is heavily correlated with income and education - thus, in certain dirt-poor states, everyone is obese.
"Taking care" of one's appearance, in most people's understanding, means doing cosmetic things to appear more feminine. This is heavily correlated with location in which women trade on their looks to find gainfully-employed husbands - location with industries that are looks-oriented, or locations that are slightly more conservative and patriarchal (but not ultra-religious, obviously). None of this applies to DC. Here it's about political and affiliated power. Women do not need to trade on their looks as much. Intellect and subject-matter expertise are also valuable. |
