Little Falls Parkway speed bumps

Don't give a crap about what happened when we got around by horse and buggy. We're talking about 2022. For my entire lifetime, roads have been for driving. Dorset goes from Little Falls to Wisconsin. Can you suggest another road that does that? I'm sorry the wealthy people who live in Somerset would rather have the road all to themselves, but my taxes paid for it and I want to use it TO DRIVE ON. Since that is indeed what roads are made for, in 2022.

If we're addressing pedestrian and bike safety, why not insist pedestrians and bicyclists behaving safely, too? I can't tell you how many times every single day I see pedestrians walking into the street staring straight down at their phones, or with their backs to oncoming traffic, like idiots. No amount of speed bumps can keep idiots like that safe.

You are welcome to drive on any road safely. The rest of us who pay taxes (seriously?) would like you to slow down or pick a route that doesn’t go through a residential area. If you would slow down, you could go through neighborhoods without speed bumps. But you can’t do that so you get speed bumps. See how that works?

Who are you addressing? Not me. I follow the speed limit. I drive safely. I also want to live in a community where people follow the rules because they know how to, not because they are hobbled. See how that works?

I was addressing don’t-give-a-crap who specifically mentioned Dorset and how they must slow down on a residential street.. (Not Little Falls, for the PP who doesn’t read before they type.) I understand you want to live free and unfettered by speed bumps in a world where all drivers obey speed limits. But you don’t and impatient ragey drivers like OP are the reason we all get to slow down even further for speed bumps. Some people just cannot control themselves so they have to be controlled. That’s the real world you live in. That’s how it really works.

That's strange, because it didn't used to work like that. Speed bumps and speed cameras are not helping our communities stay safe. Roads are LESS safe than they used to be before we had those. Because in the old days, before speed bumps and cameras, we lived in actual communities and people controlled their own behavior.

RE: Dorset: we don't need to slow down to 5 MPH to drive over a speed bump literally every 20 feet, for the entire length of the road, to maintain safety. It's ridiculous. Just another way to keep riff raff from using a public road, because wealthy people prefer it that way.

But that is not the community where you live NOW. Haven’t you noticed? Some drivers cannot control their behavior so someone else has to impose controls. If you don’t like the speed bumps on Dorset, don’t drive there.

And that's the entire point of having them, isn't it -- so people don't use it. Not okay.

So people who want to drive fast don’t use it. I use it to cut through all the time. I don’t mind not driving fast. You have choices too.

Well, you may notice that a lot of people walk and bike on roads. Guess what, we all pay taxes and some of us are polluting the air to get around and are not operating a 2 tone vehicle with the anger you are exhibiting in this forum.

I walk and bike too but unless you are suggesting that every single road in MoCo should have speed bumps this is a very odd choice to start installing them.

People need to stop speeding. Until that happens, stte and county officials are going to make physical installations to force people to stop speeding. It is quite simple, really.

No one speed on that stretch of road. It goes from two lanes to one almost immediately, so people have to merge like it or not, then it curves around several curves before coming to River Rd. There is no time to speed.

Seriously PP is expressing an insane attitude with respect to this particular stretch of road.

It’s not the biggest deal in the world for me personally but it’s just very strange. I almost wonder if the fact that no one lives on this stretch of road is why it got done— because they didn’t have to explain themselves to anyone in advance.

It doesn’t seem insane to you to turn a road into an obstacle course just for kicks? Because there is truly no other justification.

I hate it. Hardly anyone walks or bikes that stretch. The Crescent Trail is feet away and goes to the same place. And people don’t even drive fast because it’s a short stretch and always busy. I am a supporter of the Westbard development but not sure why it requires speed bumps on LF.

There is no one to email about this. It is the sole discretion of Casey Anderson, who is out of control and seems to have serious alcohol problem that the county council won’t do anything about. Once he is gone next June then there can be change. Including separating parks from planning, which is already under consideration.

You obviously don't drive there. And on Little Falls Parkway, in addition to the speed bumps, there are about a thousand reflective signs, road signs, and two stop lights all in the name of safety. It is the most insanely confusing stretch of road on planet earth. No one who drove there for the first time would know what to do. All so those who use the trail can cross the street in the middle of the road, instead of walking or biking twenty yards in either direction to a light with a cross walk. Insanity.
