If Wisconsin Ave has a dangerous intersection where we have stop lights does that mean we are going to put speed bumps from Rockville to Tenleytown?

Those speed bumps are just annoying and dumb. If you really want to just make people slow down at least put up a speed camera.

Exactly. Furthermore, the traffic signals at both ends are a speed regulator. I have not even heard one claim that there were accidents or safety risks that necessitated changes there.

Wow. Exactly 1 accident ever.

You: There haven't been any accidents.
Me: There was at least one.
You: There hasn't been more than one accident.

(Which, actually, there has been.)

What's your objection, specifically? You don't like driving over speed humps?

Not that PP but I don’t like driving over speed bumps. I’d much rather drive a steady 30 or 35 mph like on Wisconson between Bradley and FH due to speed cameras than slow down to 5 or 10 mph every couple hundred yards. Speed bumps are also harder on my car.

But the speed limit is 25 on Little Falls Parkway, not 30 or 35, which means everyone should be driving no faster than 25.

I was just giving an actual example of another road. Whether the speed limit should be 25 or 30 is a different debate.

Why should I have to slow down to 5 mph multiple times when there are no pedestrian or cars entering traffic?

Because other drivers, who are not you, comprehensively ignore posted speed limits.

Even assuming this one mile stretch of road is the priority for dampening speeds which seems like a very questionable assumption, we are discussing whether speed bumps are the right “tool in the toolbox” to slow cars down and I haven’t heard any reason they are.

Speed bumps don't slow people down. Especially Amazon drives who DGAF about the vehicle.

They don’t adhere to the bike master plan. What makes you think Planning will enforce this one? They love to talk about bike and pedestrian safety but when it comes to reviewing projects all of that goes out the window. These things are worthless because they won’t be enforced. Planning will keep approving more dangerous ideas the more and more pedestrians and cyclists will die.

So has M-NCPPC declared war on cars, or is M-NCPPC perpetuating car culture?

It’s completely incoherent, right? If you want less driving stop putting cars at the center of every development. I think they spent more time on replacing the women’s market parking lot than other part of the plan for that site.

What do you suggest as an alternative? The law does not allow a speed camera there, as far as I know, and even if it did, it would only issue citations to drivers who are going 37 mph or faster.

Is this road THE priority for reducing high driving speeds? No, that's going on all over the county, including here.

LFP used to be a joy to drive - such a pity. The speed bumps and bizarrely ridiculous re-arrangement between river and Arlington are so bad.

Well, that's just completely and demonstrably false

Studies show speed humps can be effective at reducing speeds by nearly 10 mph.

Not sure what some random “study” has to do with direct observations on LFP.

You can thank Casey Anderson. One last gift to the county.

It can still be a joy to drive. You just have to drive more slowly between stoplights than you used to.

Why would speed humps slow people down, EXCEPT on Little Falls Parkway? Is there something unique about Little Falls Parkway that negates the effect of speed humps everywhere else?

PPP: Amazon trucks are speeding over the speed bumps

You: Let me show you this study to prove that’s false

Me: What?

Is Little Falls Parkway the only place where Amazon trucks go? Are Amazon trucks the only motor vehicles on Little Falls Parkway?

Let me repeat myself: what?

Do speed humps slow drivers down? Yes, speed humps do. I hope that helps.

Not on LFP when you can just drive around them. I don't need to touch my breaks when I go around those because I barely hit the bumps. They are so stupid.
