| I’ve had 2 Odyssey’s that I absolutely loved and thought I would get a new Sienna hybrid for the next one. Went to look at a Platinum trim model. Hated the interior. Looked so cheap. Hated the material on the seats, hated the center console. It was just not nice or luxurious at all and north of $55k. So we will either get another odyssey or a non minivan. Very disappointing because I really wanted to like the Sienna. |
| We just rented an infinity xq80 and I thought I would love it but it was such a boat. I mean, I knew it was a big vehicle but something about the too-floaty suspension was hard to get used to. |
I've rented one recently to drive from DC to NC--I found the driver seat stiff, the ride bumpy and tiring AF after five hours. Sure, it was fun driving to the beach in one in my 20's and early 30's--but now, not so much. |
Seriously, this definitely sounds like a manic episode. The post asks for recommendations for a car not a retelling of your alcohol-fueled brush with death in pursuit of p*ssy. |
i have had some great trips in my Audi convertible (A5 S). It hugs the road in the mountains, and is fun to take to the beach. Nice stereo for blasting tunes! |
It depends on the version. The seats are a bit stiff. |
| I’ve had two of the cars often mentioned here- Honda Odyssey and Jeep Wrangler. Agree with the Odyssey sentiment. I know minivans aren’t cool, but this was seriously the most comfortable family hauler. As for the Wrangler, it’s fun for what it’s meant to do- drive off-road, but for road trips I hated it. My Jeep was an old-school model, which meant no air conditioning, loud ride, terrible handling…etc. maybe Jeeps are better these days? |

For comfort/function, it's the minivan. We currently have a Pacifica, and made it 32 hours in four days from San Diego to Chicago with two small kids. It holds so much.
But most enjoyable would be the 5-series BMW diesel wagon we drove around Umbria for two weeks. That car LOVED the hills and was just a joy to drive and be a passenger in. Only one kid then, and not a ton of luggage. |

Family road trip: definitely our minivan - an Odyssey. Fits everyone, and everything, comfortably, for long rides. Once 5 bikes, a kayak on the roof, a dog asleep on his bed on the floor, plus all of our stuff for a 3 week trip up to Maine. There was plenty of room for all of us.
Couples road trip: we had an old manual transmission (stick-shift), red, VW beetle convertible for a trip to Akumal, Mexico about 10 years ago that was awesome. I imagine any convertible would be fabulous! |
Jeeps are far better these days, both for comfort and for capability. The difference between my 97 and my 22 are night and day. |
| BMW X5. |
| Did a road trip to Georgia and rented a Lincoln Navigator. It was extremely nice. Can't imagine driving that boat around here but it was so nice on the highways. |
