I could see it being an Uber with Arlington passengers leaning over the driver's seat arguing about the Google Maps directions. |
Thank goodness it wasn’t St Patrick’s Day. |
It was an Uber driver with passengers.
I wonder why they don't know the reason yet. |
Was the driver being robbed? |
i don’t live in Arlington anymore but still on the dc area. People honk and scream at me for slowing down for stop signs. I see some people who don’t even slow down let alone stop at a stop sign . In DC I was crossing 16th street, zebras crosswalk, signs posted to stop for pedestrians and a guy yelled at me for crossing the street |
From ARLNow:
A gray Toyota Camry — ARLnow has heard from multiple sources that it was being operated as a rideshare vehicle — reportedly came speeding up N. Courthouse Road and drove through the “T” intersection, slamming directly into the pub. |
Every time I ate there (long since moved out of state) I wondered if that was going to happen some day. Even back then the way people took the turn the headlights would shine sometimes and I’d wonder. I’m sad it finally happened. |
Can’t believe they still haven’t released the identity of the uber driver. Not even to say if the crash was human error or a medical condition. |
Press release from Arlington:
The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the vehicle, who was operating as a rideshare driver and had a passenger at the time of the incident, was traveling north on N. Courthouse Road when he left the roadway and crashed into the restaurant. The driver and passenger were among those transported to area hospitals and both sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation and detectives continue to review evidence and speak with witnesses to determine the events that preceded the crash. |
Geez. |
This is really not that much information. Do we really not know yet whether the drive had a heart attack/stroke/something similar or was under the influence of drugs or alcohol? There are of course other possibilities but it seems like those two might be relatively quick to determine? |
Still nothing? I’m starting to think the Uber driver wasn’t brown. |
nah, there is typically zero followup or concern about reckless driving. media and police seem to see it like a non-crime by default. an “accident.” |
I avoid taking Uber/Lyft because more often than not they drive too fast or aggressively. Most times their driving scares the heck out of me. I thought one driver, in particular, had lost his mind and was going to crash on purpose, he drove so radically. I think he had a mental problem or was really angry. I'm done. |
Reckless driving including anyone non-white + casualties and the local media covers it like they hit the White House. An entire building was destroyed and 14 people hospitalized. I don’t think I’ve seen a single interview of the victims, acknowledgement from the passenger, statement from uber about their sadness or police follow-up on the driver. This happens a lot when the accuser can’t be explained away as ‘homeless feral teen’. Never did find out who killed that Senate staffer. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/death-of-popular-capitol-hill-youth-coach-senate-staffer-ruled-a-homicide/2019/08/23/3c5d39a8-c597-11e9-b5e4-54aa56d5b7ce_story.html |
