Brooklyn has nothing really going for him. He’s rudderless flapping in the wind type person. His family should recognize that and try and keep the peace in his marriage so he can at least have that. |

| I agree with the pp who noted that she never had a mil before, much less a rich, celebrity mil who is probably opinionated and has control issues. She has them too probably ( just guessing!). She is probably wondering why her in laws are not absolutely and unequivocally adoring her ( ah the self absorption of being young and love). Her own family's wealth, her having a big family herself and her husband dissing his own family and her arrogance all lower the likelihood that she would have the motivation and maturity to weather the conflict with her in-laws. She's not really attached to them. Her husband doesn't go to bat for his family....that's the biggest obstacle. His own issues and inability to navigate the transition to marriage. I blame him more. |

This. It's the whole story. I don't get OP's claim that it's "unusual" for a woman to be both very shallow/self-absorbed and also very devoted to her rich family. In fact I think it's the norm. I have encountered many women from well off families who were never told "no" growing up and whose parents taught them that their wealth and privilege were not the result of sheer luck (for being born into that family) but a mark of their inherent value. Of course it makes them self-centered and arrogant. And when they go into the world and not everyone treats them this way, it just deepens their commitment to their family who does. The Kardashians are also like this -- very shallow, very committed to each other, very rich. Granted, in that family the mega-wealth came a bit later, and from the kids, but Kris was the mastermind and her kids are very loyal to that. I am not surprised by what has happened with the Beckhams because the women I've known like this are very sensitive to not being the alpha female in their family unit. Most of the ones I know who have good relationships with ILs, their MILs are doting grandmotherly types who sing their DIL's praises at every turn and brag about how pretty and generous and smart she is. I would assume VB was likely polite and complimentary when she met Nicola (she *is* British) but I doubt it was effusive and she certainly never saw herself as a bit player in Nicola's fairy tale. The wedding dress story is a classic pissing match between two alphas and neither was willing to cede the upper hand. The are probably both narcissists, but I have more respect for VB who at least built a career and a successful business and isn't just running around spending daddy's money like that's a profession. |

I would guess Harry laments having written that book. At some point, especially after time away, mature people get perspective. And now I would guess Harry wishes he could reunite with his family. But that ship sailed.
I think Brooklyn could be falling into the same trap. Hopefully he doesn't do anything stupid that he can't come back from. Because I agree with others that it is highly unlikely this marriage will last. |

I've never seen her in anything but it looks like she's only had bit parts in things and her only major role was in the TV series Bates Motel. The thing she did in 2024 for a film she directed, so yeah -- movie funded by parents or parent connections that she directed and starred it. It looks pretty terrible. |

It's crazy to me how high profile the family estrangement is. Like with Harry you get why it wound up being public because their family is also the family business and also have these formal roles in Britain, so if Harry was going to nope out on being a "working royal" or whatever, for any reason, it was going to get tons of press and scrutiny, Meghan or no. But Nicola and Brooklyn and even Victoria and David are under nowhere near that level of scrutiny. They could have kept this fairly quiet if they'd all been a bit more circumspect about it, and at least not have had a bunch of strangers on the internet talking about their family issues. But everyone appears to be a bit, hmmm, drama prone. |
