GMAFB. As one PP said, if she herself didn't know, someone in her camp HAD to know. It was everywhere. I don't follow either of these people as musicians and it was everywhere for me. |
| It sounds like trash. I don't like most of the songs. Also, hearing her sing the words thotty and saying dead ass just made me cringe. |
Relax. You all win. Beyoncé used ‘ableist’ slur in a new song. After uproar, she’s deleting it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/08/02/beyonce-spaz-slur/ |
This is getting ridiculous. Are we not allowed to use the word schizo anymore either? |
Next they are going to cancel the word "stupid".
|
+1 All of the reviews are raving about it and it just doesn’t feel like anything new at all. And I don’t love 90s dance or house music so I just don’t get it. |
This is her worst album yet. |
|
I do not like dance music and was therefore disappointed when I first heard this.
BUT THEN I had it on in the background while working today and found myself jamming out. |
I was shocked she left it in when Lizzo just went through the backlash and apology before changing the word in her just released album. From what I learned, the outrage over the word started in the UK handicapable community. Spaz over there is much more derogatory than in the US. I find it ironic since their use of the word fag doesn't cause the same outrage in the US. Anyway, the handicapable community seized on the opportunity to back the UK community and it soon became a big abelist slur in the US. The word spaz was much more common in the 80s and 90s than now. I haven't heard any of my Gen Z kids ever use that word. When I quizzed them all on when it meant, they all said a variation of nerd or dork. |
I have a love of all things 90's but it's not that great to me. I like two songs. I don't think it's horrible, just not my cup of tea. |
This was my first thought too. |
Not a matter of "allowed." Use it all you want, if you choose to come across as a profoundly tone-deaf jerk. It's a slur and an ugly one which belittles and devalues people with an actual mental illness. I guess you don't have a loved one with diagnosed schizophrenia. Lucky, lucky you. |
It doesn't derive from the formal NAME of a specific, identifiable medical condition, so no, be stupid all you like. |
She's a highly curated performer, with an army of writers, producers, musicians, handlers, agents, PR people, blah blah blah. They knew, even if your Queen herself was Above It All and never heard a peep about Lizzo's coverage. And "weeks' was plenty of time to fix it. It's not like they had to do a new pressing of a million vinyl albums. |
No, they really are trying to "cancel" that word too. https://thebodyisnotanapology.com/magazine/stupid-is-an-ableist-slur-breaking-down-defenses-around-ableist-language-liberating-our-words/ |
