Pretty jacked up. They essentially announced, one week before school, the before-care and aftercare is canceled b/c the director no longer works there. Parents are scrambling their tails off now trying to get kids in aftercare that's full around the city. It was run by a separate shepherd nonprofit entity. The board sent out one alternative that has pretty good reviews for their summer program. Just a bad situation all around.

My kids loved Shepherd aftercare. I hope they can right the ship.

The alternative is $500+ a month. Why didn’t the board send the DPR alternative that’s $50 for the entire school year?

Don't all DPR programs end at 5? Also, I think many of them are full already. Is there one near Shepherd even?

Don't know about you but I've had a horrible time trying to register most free things through DCPR. They opened at 12pm last Monday, I logged on and was number 1850. By the time I got on, swimming and everything else was full EVERYWHERE. I'm convinced they are letting folks pre-register. lol.

Honestly- aftercare in a school building is a mess.
No teachers want to work aftercare. The classrooms that host it get destroyed.

Aftercare in school is the norm almost everywhere?

Well good news is they will be opening back up and restarting in a month. Glad the board and parents got together to keep it going this fall! Registration restored and open for new families Friday

How is the interim principal so far?

She seems good so far. Pretty responsive, and communicative about issues at the school. I haven't heard much from the teachers about her, hoping she is more popular than the previous administrator.

I disagree and experienced the exact opposite. I very much hope they don't confirm her as the permanent placement.

Will they do another panel this spring if they don’t pick her?

Typically, unless there was widespread support for her, she'd have to panel in the Spring in any case.
