Anyone noticing more intersection panhandling?

some racing driver got murdered at a CA gas station I think by a panhandler

I’ve had a few knock on my car windows on streets and at parking lots. It does seem too organized. I’ve seen them leave the granola bars given by good samaritans on the median.

I wish it was against the law, but until then it’s best to give nothing.

The police in Fairfax County will tell you straight-up its organized and where people are dropped off, etc. No one needs to speculate.

it's horrible around here now. At little river turnpike and 495 there is the same 4 people on each corner they all work 8 hours a day, the same older guy with the elbow brace and cane "works" there constantly. Why can't he get a job if he's out there 40+ hours a week? Also they leave their trash everywhere on the corner even though in 10 feet there are trash cans. Don't pay these people to litter.

I think the ones near us on Georgia Avenue and Norbeck have moved on. It was obviously a scam, and I wish people would stop donating to them.

And the police (at least in my county) are instructed to leave the panhandlers alone.

Yes and they intimidate me. Still not as bad as the squeegee boys in Baltimore though.

I wish I could take my kids to the aquarium but it's not worth the aggressive panhandlers at every intersection and the squeegee boys at every stoplight.

I don't give panhandlers money. I give my money to the neighborhood kitchens that feed the homeless and occasionally give a few bucks to a couple of homeless people I've seen for years in the neighborhood - and they don't panhandle. I'll also happily give money to buskers. But never random panhandlers.

Same. Especially with kids in the car.

I sat through three rounds of red lights and observed a gypsy woman panhandling. In about the five minutes that I saw, she collected from several cars, conservatively I estimated she made about $8in those five minutes (when I could see the fanned out dollars). If you extrapolate that you can make a educated guess of how much tax free cash they’re pulling in. More power to them?

And not just trash - water bottles filled with urine. I do not understand how this is allowed/legal - it's disgusting.

What enrages me are the panhandlers who use their babies/children as props, and in the hottest of weather.

You'd be pissed off if they left the kids unsupervised, too.

In the days we’ll before Rudy went batsh&@ crazy, at least as NYC mayor he got the squeegee gangs under control.
