Can Daisy be taken seriously?

Great name. DCUM is so weird and conservative on names.

There's a natural bias on here against anything perceived as a non-traditional name because people on the forum can be split into traditionalists and non-traditionalist.

Traditionalists HATE every name that isn't within their set of acceptable names. Thus you get the people in this thread who are like "It's a cow's name", "it's a puppy name", "I could never respect a grown woman named Daisy." They are unimaginative people. They are actively fearful of something different. So they respond with nastiness to anything that feels different.

But non-traditionalists don't hate traditional names, they just find them boring. So they'll respond to a thread about Elizabeth and say "it's pretty, but so common." Still a criticism, but so much milder and more of a "if this is what you want, at least it's a pretty name" response. The most forceful this group gets is when someone suggests a more popular name, and then they will sometimes get a little nasty about this "Oh my god, ANOTHER Sophia?" But the criticism isn't really on the name, it's on the choice to use a more popular name.

As a result, even though lots of PPs have said they like or even love this name, the traditionalists are going to pan it aggressively. I mean, page 1 of this thread is almost entirely people saying "No just name her Margaret." Because Margaret is a traditional name and they consider Daisy to be a nickname, and deviating from that is transgressive and bad.

If I am OP, I'm automatically dismissing anyone who's like "it's not a real name" or "it's a cow's name" because these people aren't actually responding to the name itself but the perception that it deviates from what you are "supposed" to do when you name your child. I have not time for people like that.

Of course Daisy can be taken seriously! It’s a normal, recognizable name.

My name is Margaret and I would have been horrified if I had been nicknamed Daisy. It's a trailer park name.

Daisy Buchanan was shallow and dumb

Daisy Buchanan is the obvious name association.

Silly I know, but I do the job title check:
Supreme Court Justice Daisy Thompson
Gold medalist Daisy Thompson
“Daisy Thompson reporting from the site of <insert important news event>”.

I think the kid will make the name.

I don’t want my surgeon or law partner to be named Daisy, no.

Any name can be a puppy name! I know a puppy Charlotte, Michael and Conor and they are also nice human names! I've also read about human names that used to be dog names...Rex!

Does anyone have full name ideas aside from Margaret?

I think Daisy can probably be a reporter or gold medalist but probably not a Supreme Court Justice.

I know a Daisy. She is a consummate professional, with a killer network. It honestly hadn’t occurred to me to think anything of her name.

I hope you are being deliberately obtuse…

... why?

I want my surgeon to be experienced, professional, and confident. I'm checking references, finding out where they did their residency, etc. I could care less what their name is. Like it's not even on my radar.

Same with a lawyer. I don't care if my lawyer's name is Princess Consuela Bananahammock -- if she's a killer litigator, an effective divorce lawyer, or a meticulous transactional attorney, that's all that matters to me.

I feel sorry for someone who would select a doctor or lawyer, or any professional, on the basis of how much they like their first name. What a waste of energy.

All that said, I genuinely like the name Daisy and if I met someone with that name, I'd be predisposed to like them because I have positive associations with their name.
