Can Daisy be taken seriously?

Can "Mitt" be taken seriously? Kamala? Tammy? (x2 in the Senate!) Mazie? My Congress rep's name is "Steny" for heaven's sake! Just thinking through names off the top of my head of people who occupy the halls of power in this country. They seem to be doing just fine. The vascular surgeon who saved my life? Krystal. My kid's school principal? Just Auggie, not August or anything. Some of ya'll are still kicking and screaming your way into the 21st century, but fortunately most people have moved past the time , we are moving past the time where you have to be a WASP named William or Elizabeth to be taken seriously.

There are lots of people who name their animals human names. I know a dog named Michael and Conor. Would you not use those names because of that? Of course not! Now is op wanted to name her kid Buttercup I would say that is a name that you can't take seriously

So now Annie, Annabelle, and Rosie are off the table too?

Y'all are so sad sometimes. No one is going to think about a cow or compare your child to a cow if you give her the name Daisy. They will think of the flower! Duh.

I thought of a cow before the flower.

Daisy is a great name . . . for a baby. Not so much for an adult.

I'm sorry you have such a bovine-focused mind, then.

It’s totally fine. Only small-minded people would think it’ll be a problem. My friend Bambi (real name) is well respected at her job in the medical field. I actually know someone named Daisy. Her legal name was Margaret and she hated that, so had it legally changed to Daisy, which is what she’s been called her whole life.

For people who think this name is too cute (I disagree, I like it a lot), I would be curious to hear if you have suggestions that someone who likes Daisy might find appealing but are not too cute. Other than naming her Margaret and calling her Daisy, which I'm not a fan of because Margaret and Daisy are such fundamentally different names and the connection via French is the sort of thing she'd wind up explaining to people all the time.

Anyway, what are Daisy alternatives then?

+1, Margaret sounds dour and old-fashioned to me. I've known many Margarets and they made it work for themselves, but I like Daisy a LOT more. And besides, if I can dislike the name Margaret and still like and respect people named that, why couldn't the same be true for someone named Daisy? There's not universally appealing name (and if there was, it would be deemed "too common" by DCUM anyway).

It's not that she *can't* be taken seriously, but having a name like that makes it harder. It says her family doesn't take her seriously.

We've talked about the Daisy name a bunch of times on this exact same forum. It's a puppy name.

Of course! Daisy is an old name. I love it.

The surgeon who orthopedic surgeon who replaced my mother’s knee is named Daisy. Trust me, she’s taken seriously. It would never occur to me that anyone would think it wasn’t anymore than Rose.

Great name. DCUM is so weird and conservative on names.
