Where do upper middle class families go on vacation?

Those are some long flights for just a week. Why wouldn't you cut a few of the weekend trips and spend 10-14 days in your overseas destination? You've probably barely recovered from jetlag in Morocco before you'd be turning around.

Yep, it does not make sense to go that far for just 1 week, especially with kids 6 and under. I'm guessing PP making this up.

For those criticizing the one week trips overseas, have you tried it? My kid is barely affected by time change. Not everyone has the flexibility to take more than one week off at a time.

Winter break - ski or somewhere tropical

Spring break - Florida, Mexico, Caribbean

Summer - maybe Europe, national parks

We just stay at nicer places when our income increased.

I consider this upper class not upper middle.

We are upper middle (makes about gross about $270k/yr) and take 2 vacations
one ski trip and one summer vacation- national park/Canada, hawaii, gave up on local beaches.

I don't know, we're at about 240K per year, and everything the OP lists are places we have been. We take one or two vacations a year, and just stay at reasonably budget minded airbnbs and hotels.

I am the pp who listed the places we go. I guess the difference may be frequency.

DP here. We don’t do many overseas trips and we usually go for around 10 days and it is totally fine.

We travel frequently. We often go on Florida or Caribbean type vacations for 4-5 days. We are doing Europe this summer for 10 days.

Is this actual UMC or DCUM UMC ($500k hhi+)?

That’s not upper middle. $270 is poverty level on DCUM

DCUM isn’t real life.

To a beach house they own. But they don't call it "vacation" there. They also do trips to Caribbean, Grand Canyon, Disney World.

Depending on where they are going, the gear could be something like those Travelon/Pacsafe slash-proof/RFID blocking purses which have way more safety features than they will ever need (similar to their Subarus), Yeti camping coolers that provide way more cooling than they ever need, hiking boots designed for the swiss alps to walk on a paved national park trail.

Geez. Do you know me? I bought one of those purses. Because I was pickpocketed on my last trip. Thanks for the chuckle, PP!

But if we DARE say it’s hard to afford things at that income, we get totally flamed for being out of touch. We can’t win.

+1, who flies with kids under 6 to Argentina only to spend 4-5 days? Seems ridiculous. We generally schedule our overseas travel for June or August so that we can spend 10-14 days without disrupting school schedules. We also prefer destinations with shorter flights from the East Coast, at least until our kids are older -- Western Europe mostly, where we can get direct flights fairly easily and the time difference won't be egregious.

When we only have a week, we will either do something in North America. Some fun trips have included NoLa (surprisingly little kid friendly), LA or SF, Pacific Northwest, Mexico City, Jamaica, Montreal/Quebec City, the Yucatan, a bunch of different Caribbean islands.

For weekends we do NYC, Chicago, Charleston, or Maine. We like destinations with a beach so we can do a beach day and a city day during a 3-4 day weekend (love Charleston for this).

I hate Florida. Never taken the kids to Disney and they've never asked.

Please say more.

Some islands sound great.
