Where do upper middle class families go on vacation?

When with family, did extending camping or canoeing trips. Never did Disney or resorts or cruises. Oh, one year we rented a cabin in the Poconos and skied, and that was nice, but we aren't really a skiing family so it was just the once.

As a young adult on my own and with DH I did some foreign travel. Now we are raising two kids UMC and we still like to camp, stay in cabins in the woods, drive to visit family, and go to the beach. Ocean City MD is great. I recently went to a very high-end beach resort for a work conference and loathed it. Not my scene at all. There was a dress code just to be in the hallway. No thanks.

Everyone always raises an eyebrow when we say we're going to Ocean City and not Rehoboth but honestly it's great. I guess we will try Rehoboth some year to see if we're missing something.

That is not umc.

We have more money than time but the money helps avoid needing to save money off-season, so we don’t need to go south of DC in the hot weather, we get a suite or adjoining rooms so we don’t share a room with our child, don’t drive over 3 hours, etc.

OMG! Yes, this is like the holy land for them!

Only if you live in va. I haven’t found this in MD.

This summer we're going to Alaska, next winter we're going to Florida. We've had great vacations in San Diego and Hawaii with the kids, and some local weekend trips, but most of our time off is spent visiting family. We might go to Europe in a few years when my youngest is at least 6, but I'm not good with jetlag so it would be a longer trip.

I never fully adjust to Europe and it is totally fine. I mean we aren’t talking asia where day and night are flipped.

We wake up when we wake up in Europe. We eat breakfast at lunchtime and can stay out later than normal. I remember loving going pub crawling and partying because it would be like 7pm EST so I could literally party all night.

I grew up UMC in/around NYC. We went to Mohonk Mountain House and the Bar Harbor Inn a number of times. Also went to the Woodstock Inn (Vermont) several times. We went to the UK, Greece, and Italy, and stayed at 4/5 star hotels. We did Disney a few times and stayed at deluxe resorts each time. We did a few ski trips to Stowe, and one to Mont Tremblant. We went to Toronto and stayed at the Four Seasons there. Actually, I remember staying at the Four Seasons for several vacations. We went to Hawaii twice; once to Maui and once to Kauai. I think we stayed at the Grand Hyatt each time. I don’t remember ever doing a long-haul flight in economy.

It’s all relative, I guess. I went to high school with kids who spent every winter break skiing in the Alps and went home to multi-floor apartments on Central Park West. Are they upper-upper class?

I’m UMC, and I travel everywhere in every manner. I love rustic and interesting. By somethings really need to be upgraded, and then I do it. I’m currently in a hostel in Madrid with my child (awake when I shouldn’t be as my schedule never fully fixed). Yesterday we spent a long layover in Casablanca. Two weeks ago we were camping at a music festival in West Virginia. A couple weeks before we were staying with friends in Maine. In March, we were in Portugal for a week. Started the year with a week in Costa Rica, split between an open aired cabin we had to raft two hours to get to and the Four Seasons, with a super fun night in Panama City added in at the last minute. My friends are mostly UMC and they do a variety of these types of trips, depending on their own personal preferences.

UMC people have jobs that they have to work at.

We go to Europe every year in the summer, Colorado for spring break to ski, and Florida on the beach Gulf side for winter break and part of August.

A doctor and teacher is not upper class. It's just normal life. The issue is that the ow class non achievers looking at average people and thinking it's special.
