Moving to Orange County FL Orlando from McLean to Windemere, schools are bad? Oviedo is better? Help

I lived in Oviedo for 6 years. Winter Park is really nice and has spectacular homes. We had a very nice house in Oviedo walking distance to Lawton Elementary and Oviedo High. My aunt moved down since she loved the town and her kids went to Hagerty.

Lake Mary is also nice. I'd choose Winter Park, personally. Some very nice homes there.

Rebecca Puig is an awesome realtor there.

I personally hated living in Florida and could not wait to get back here. But I had an nice house. And it was cheap.

We weren't. My kids went to Winter Park. Fantastic school, very diverse. My kids went to college for free, too! Hard to beat that. Now, if you are scared of brown and/or poor kids, you will probably be disappointed. The schools in FL aren't like they are in say, McLean or Bethesda. Winter Park, and most other high schools, will have kids living in multimillion dollar homes going to school with kids from low income apartment complexes. If you want the hyper-segregated experience of a McLean or Langley, you will have to do private. But most of us think there is value in diverse schools. Different strokes.

To be honest we are wealthy but the neighborhood is a mishmash of ramblers and large new builds so it's not visually uniformly wealthy. I am mostly concerned about schools and poverty and whether I need to budget for private schools which will change my housing budget.

Oviedo and Hagerty are both good high schools. So windemere is like Alexandria where you pay to live in an exclusive area but you can't use the public schools and have to go private. Wtf

Is it the Ashburn of Orlando but with the outlying areas having better schools?

No. You only “have to go private” if you insist on your kids not going to school with kids from different socioeconomic backgrounds. I went to those schools. Plenty of well off people send their kids to them and they end up at the same colleges as the private school kids. But if your standards are “very low farms rate,” then yeah, I guess you’re stuck paying tuition (which shouldn’t be a big deal if you can afford a $3.5M house).

OP, if you’re serious, I really don’t think FL is for you. You haven’t said whether anything else about it appeals to you except the lower cost of living though so idk.

Seminole County schools are good because it is like Howard County in MD. It is less dense and more spread out and there is a higher average wealth in each school. Yes, I meant the dc area is much wealthier on the whole, which is why suburban dc schools are better. Winter Park is widely considered to be the best part of the Orlando area. Public schools there are considered to be good. I think motivated, smart kids would do well in any winter park public school. But I am not googling farms rates. Most good students are aiming for in state at UF or maybe Emory. It’s different than nova.

How can there be 35% farms and winter park bean exclusive area?

The same way a Chevy chase public can. They draw the boundaries to include low income apartments.

I’m from Florida, it’s segregation beats DMV hands-down (I think they invented gated communities!).

There is no way Winter Park was more diverse than McLean, unless you mean you were happy there were less Asians, and more blacks.

Your numbers are wrong. McLean HS total population is over 2100 students. That's more like 500-600 per class size. Still smaller, but much closer to 800.
