I’m also from NY and spent a lot of time in Boston for school and work. I was also unfamiliar with UVA before moving down here a decade ago. I have mentioned that a few times on DCUM over the years and people get very defensive.
My son will be entering high school next year. UVA is a better school and harder to get into. You need like a 1540 SAT and 4.4 GPA and graduate top 5-10% of your class if you are from VA. I would add all the b schools in Boston for business - BU, BC, Brandeis, Babson, Bentley and also Northeastern. I have one kid who is a gunner and wants to go to Wharton or Sloan (obvious reaches). I will encourage him to apply to the other B schools. I would have considered them safeties 20-30 years ago but not anymore. |
Is UVA test optional? (I have no idea - it's not on my son's radar.) If so, of course test scores are trending upward: only applicants with strong scores are submitting them. |
Are you obtuse? I'm responding specifically to an erroneous post claiming that the test scores of entering first years at UVA have been "pretty steady" in recent years. So, yes, this does tell much of one thing: that poster is wrong. |
No, you are not. You got your numbers from here, where it's made clear that they are preliminary numbers for admitted students. Your information is as of March 22, 2022, when admissions decisions were issued. Try again. https://www1.villanova.edu/university/undergraduate-admission/applying-to-villanova/admission-profile.html |
Chocolate or vanilla? |
Virtually all schools are test optional. Including Villanova. |
In this case it's vanilla or vanilla. |
| If you lived in Boston/NYC/DC then you probably didn't tell girls "Would you date a black guy?" or "Stop! You should have your brother or dad plug it in!" in front of him. Have him be the shining star at Villanova. The "culture" of Charlottesville is extremely strong with deep social consequences. Even mention of Alderman housing on this very board got someone suspecting racism it is so prevalent. No Richard Spencers or Jason Kesslers from Villanova. |
| Wut |
I don’t understand what you are talking about. |
You don't know Villanova as well as you think. It's a fine school academically, no doubt about it, but it's super wealthy and super white and far less diverse and intellectual than UVA. It has long had a reputation as the school of choice for wealthy, insulated Catholics in the greater Philadelphia area who are quite quick to point their noses up at anyone else. |
| UVA>Villanova, nuff said |
80% of the students are from Northern VA for UVA Diverse? LOL |
| Share your source for 80% nova |
Why not google first before spouting off nonsense? UVA is 1/3 NOVA, 1/3 the rest of VA, and 1/3 out of state. 80 percent of Villanova undergrads are from the greater Philadelphia/Tri-State area, which geographically and demographically is no larger of an area. |
