First grade teacher making $100k. And summers OFF! Life is good. |
Not like everyone. The people I’m talking about work from home, can go to exercise classes in the middle of the day, and the bathroom whenever they want. You think teachers aren’t working those kinds of hours? Please. I’d say 50 is the minimum to get it done. |
My sister is a first grade teacher with a masters and 23 years in. She’s not making $100K. |
The above is a troll post. Teachers do not make this much unless they've been doing it for 35 years or more. Also, teachers do not have "off" in the summer. They are furloughed and have no job during that time. |
Not really the point of the post but I am genuinely curious as to why the summer off weeks are described as furlough? For example if you make 60k that is a yearly salary and you would divide by 12 and that is your monthly amount - knowing that you may receive it in 9-10 months but it is a yearly salary. I’m more curious from a business/financial perspective as I am a consultant ( self- employed) and always take off December, August, and often July. After 5+ years, I know my “ salary” and budget it over 12 months. For example, I know that November is my last check until end January when I bill for that month and it won’t post until February. I’ve allocated a budget based on my yearly salary which helps me. May not work for everyone but this mindset helps me. |
Not the above poster, look at licensed teacher salary.. Not a troll. This area pays their teachers very well. https://www.acps.k12.va.us/Page/1187 |

Also, a Masters +30 gets there even quicker. I do believe that in most areas, teachers are grossly underpaid, but in NOVA, they have competitive salaries. |

This area does better than most areas, but we should do better still. I know very few professions around DC in which someone with a graduate degree has to work 20 years to break six figures. |
All of in laws are teachers and they do not have 2nd and 3rd jobs. They take the entire summers off and seem to always be on vacation. Their kids all go to private schools (thanks to FA or grand parents I don't know which) and live in small houses in nice areas.
I do t think any of them have ever had a second job. They seem to be doing great. |
They don’t take the summers off. They are effectively unemployed because their next contract starts in August. I’m sincerely glad they are doing well. Teachers should be able to have comfortable lives, so it’s great to hear of the ones who are. When all teachers can live in “small houses in nice areas” and have enough money to send kids to private schools, then we are getting somewhere. Right now, that doesn’t seem to be the norm. |
The swim "season" lasts longer than the school year! Practices start in September and end in late July. There are meets about once a month, except for the summers when everyone does summer swim on top of club and races every Saturday and Wednesday. |
Um, I don’t want my kids teachers sending their kids to private schools. They can, of course, but it certainly sends the wrong message. |
