It makes sense based on low infection and hospitalization rates among young children and their inability to effectively wear respirators if they can even find one that fits.

Instead mask mandates for adults and even older children have fallen away, but toddlers and preschoolers, they got a tiny break before the mask mandate came back. WTAF. I truly despise the policymakers that okayed this.

Hospitalization rates are low. Infection/transmission rates are not. Hence all the pre-schoolers ordered into quarantine.

They are low relative to most other age groups. Preschoolers are in quarantine and other groups are not because only preschoolers are being ordered to quarantine.

Why not?

Because I don’t want to deal with the hassle if it’s positive. Don’t test, don’t tell us my motto

Hassle with what?

Whole daycare class gets stuck with a 10 day quarantine if there’s a positive test at our school. It’s not sustainable for working parents. Not to mention disruptive for kids. And totally unnecessary. Therefore, no test, no positive, no quarantine!

DP your name calling doesn't change the fact the PP is correct. Nobody else is quarantining, only the youngest kids. We're putting the entire burden of stopping COVID transmission on families with young children in daycare. It's BS, harmful to the kids and not effective. It is rationale and predictable for many families to take this approach and no more unethical than the entire approach of public health guidance which is to pretend the pandemic is over for all childless adults.

+1. This is what happens when people insist on continuing ridiculous policies.

NO, the DOH says mask the mandate should return when the CDC places DC at HIGH. So when it's medium, only those who are immunocompromised are encouraged to wear a mask. So DC's childcare centers may remain mask optional if they wish.

Read the regs. Don't pass incorrect information around.

Actually, the whole idea of "stopping covid transmission" is not realistic - we thought in March 2020 that if we wore masks and stayed inside and away from everyone for 3 or 3 or 4 months that we could stop the transmission and stop covid completely. That didn't work, didn't happen, and so now we will need to live with it, just like we live with the Flu every winter. That means staying home if sick, getting tested if sick, and keeping away from people if you positive for covid. And if you are positive, telling the people you work with, your friends you socialized with, and the nanny, family childcare provider, childcare center or school that your child is positive when they are. That way they can quarantine people as necessary (only necessary if you aren't boosted and otherwise up-to-date on your vaccine), so all kids under 5 years old and those adults who won't get boosted or even vaxxed.

Kids 5 and under have lower infection rates than most other age groups so singling them out for quarantine becasue they are unvaxxed is stupid.

You say live with it like we do for the fly but then talk about quarantines. We don’t quarantine for the flu.

Actually, it DID work. Many more people would have died otherwise and the hospitals would have been stressed to the point of collapse. How is this not common knowledge by now?

It worked so long as everyone stayed home, but the virus didn’t go away, it was waiting until we came back out. Sure, slowing things down until the vaccine was available certainly saved lives but now what? What is the point of all these quarantines now?
