If you think creating a second desirable by-right high school in DC only effects the parents of the first kids to be rerouted there, you're very shortsighted. Also, it's *Shepherd Park.

The new macarthur school will be 1000 students. Can't Lafayette + Shepherd get almost all the way there themselves?

Are you proposing rezoning the two easternmost elementary schools zoned for J-R to Macarthur, which basically as far West as you can go without falling into Virginia? If so, why?

Elementary actually but I can second especially the impacts of teacher churn, the benefit of advanced math and the AP prep. I have also recently been a Wilson/J-R parent

It couldn't possibly and is enormously tone deaf. There are so many kids who are promoted year after year that are not proficient in either math or ELA, what could possibly be done at the high school level that would "move the needle?" What even is the needle? DCPS-XQ is far worse than "Alice Deal For All" which was a failed campaign promise; this stupid XQ BS actually has money being thrown at it.

Could you elaborate on the XQ BS?

He has gone to one of the traditional DCPS middle schools where he's one of very few white kids and is actually quite happy.

Generally, this is a kid who cares about grades and reads a lot and is a quick study at math. He doesn't have to try very hard, but he also as I mentioned typically aces tests. English tests he's off the charts and on math, not quite, but way above grade level.

I'd say that's what he'd miss. If he's acing everything in middle school, the curriculum isn't challenging enough. DCPS doesn't offer a gifted program, and that does advanced learners a real disservice. Especially if your child does make it into a competitive college.
