What the hell happened to JD Vance?

I don’t fault him for choosing the best law school to which he was admitted. That’s what most people do. Plenty of other reasons to dislike him.

Vance should explain why Ohio State wasn’t good enough for him.

YLS is a joke of a place, in many ways. He probably wanted to jerk around for a few years while still getting a nice credential.

I’m not sure he ever even took the bar exam.

I guarantee JD will send his kids to Seven Hills and then Yale as legacies.

Including how he rails against “the elites” as a venture capitalist who went to YLS. Absurd.

Hilarious. Guy doesn’t even know who he is anymore.

Should get primary results tonight:

Ugh. Peter Thiel bought JD Vance and funded his whole campaign. So here we have it, the likely new Senator from Ohio who was purchased by a billionaire who renounced his US citizenship to become a New Zealander and avoid US taxes.

Will Mandel accept the results? The vote count was probably rigged. How do we know the votes were counted fairly? Stop the steal!

JD Vance is a complete charlatan, but he couldn’t possibly be any worse than Mandel, right? Since Tim Ryan has no chance to win, I guess I see Vance as the least-bad option.

He acquired New Zealand citizenship but retains his US citizenship. He has an enormous amount in a Roth IRA, so avoiding US taxes isn't a huge motivation for him.

Grad and law school aren’t considered legacy.

He managed to win without showing his brown skin wife and children! I really didn’t know he was married until recently. Amazing!

Or is it completely hopeless and us liberals should just accept that the next senator from Ohio will be whoever the Republicans nominate? If that’s the case then I’m pulling for Vance. He’s gotta be better than Mandel, right?

I am + I work in politics. Remember Ohio was a swing state until Trump. It is pretty red now due to an older, white rural population. Sherrod Brown is a liberal Senator. Trom Ohio + retiring Senator Portman is white male privileged Waspy miltoast.

Neither Vance nor Democratic challenger, Ryan, have big name recognition throughout Ohio- this could go either way.

I know. I thought it was funny/sad how every article about him mentioned his Hillbilly Elegy background with little coverage of his Indian-American wife who he met at Yale. How must it feel to be Usha Vance and know your husband’s base disapproves of your ancestry.

Vance has a Trump endorsement. Trump won the state by what, 8% in 2020? I understand that it's continued to move even more red since then. This won't really be a competitive race unless something blows up between now and then.

Yes it should be interesting. Vance has never run for anything anywhere but he has deep pocketed Thiel and his hedge fund Bros who can help him fund a ground game in Ohio. Let’s see if Tim Ryan can clearly articulate the difference between a fake Trump living hedge fund populist and an actual Democrat with pro union roots and a background in Ohio politics
