It’s coming. Moderna is set to apply for EUA within a week or so.

You know Moderna applied for EUA for kids 12-17 last year and FDA still hasn't acted on it, don't you? What makes you so sure FDA will act on <5 when the vaccine still isn't authorized for older kids?

+1. I actually dont have a lot of confidence that we’ll see an EUA for this age group anytime soon.

I think we probably will, but it wouldn't surprise me if FDA passes on Moderna and waits for Pfizer's 3 dose study. All they have to do is successful immunobridging, not demonstrate efficacy. Like in adults, the expectation will be that the vaccine will reduce the already-rare severe cases in children, even though efficacy against infection will be fairly low. But the studies are small enough that actually demonstrating lower severity probably won't be possible.

It’s a private preschool. They can make any rule they want. No Nike sneakers. Only striped socks on Fridays. Attending their school is not a fundamental right.

Yeah you should take gov 101 again. Nothing is stopping the government - local state or fed - from saying private businesses can’t discriminate based on medical decisions of a not-fully-authorized drug. And as PP said, if CDC made this their guidance, most governments would.

The CDC doesn’t make laws, they issue guidance.

and they should say our guidance is a recommendation and should not be made a requirement for anyone until further data is available.

??? They don’t have the authority to dictate to private businesses how their guidance should be used. Sounds like you need a different preschool if you don’t like the rules at this one. Or a nanny.

I don’t have a preschooler. I’m speaking to vaccine requirements generally which I think are weakening trust in our public health agencies.

The long term effects of these very quick and hasty vaccine mandates will be dangerous for all. Vaccination rates for all vaccines will continue to decrease if we keep forcing little kids to take ineffective vaccines for Covid. I think the CDC/FDA are not thinking broadly here.

Then people who don’t choose to vaccinate will continue to be excluded from things. There’s no shortage of people who do vaccinate to take preschool spots. States had already started tightening their school vaccination requirements before covid started. I don’t want the CDC making recommendations based on “what will the antivaxxers think!”

I would find a different preschool.

HAHAHA. Privately owned businesses can set policies they choose. "Unvaccinated" is not a legally protected class.

Don't like it? Waitlist families will be glad to have the spot.

Well, when that happens, let us know, because it's not what the law states. Private school. Their rules. Bye.

And once again, slower this time, whatever they say is "guidance" which compels no one.

The problem is that people who aren't anti-vaxxers like you think they are - want more data to make informed consent. Pro- vaccine and informed consent should NOT be mutually exclusive.

Organizations like this preschool turn their guidance into requirements - which is where the problem arises.

I don't think privately owned businesses have a complete carte blanche but maybe their policy choices are only limited by tort liability.

Have you been anxiously waiting to get into a preschool? Didn't get on the waitlist early enough? I can see why you'd be excited by this.

I suspect most parents will suck it up if they don't have another option lined up, but that doesn't mean that private businesses setting their own health policies for young kids despite zero expertise within their organization is the right thing to do. Our daycare has not mandated the vaccine for 5yos, I suspect they will follow MCPS' lead on this. But they did issue a "strong recommendation" that the 2-4yos continue to mask until they can be vaccinated. The CDC isn't even recommending that anymore.

This is the dumbest thread.

Anyone had luck with a pediatrician that may be open to giving an exemption for school?
Anonymous
I mean, how can contract require someone to get a vaccine that doesn't even exist?
