Songs with lyrics that would never fly today

Kidding. I love pretty much every song listed.

"I used to Love Her, But I Had to Kill Her": Lesser known Guns and Roses song, super fun as a singalong, but questionable in light of Axl Rose's real-life abuse to the gorgeous Erin Everly and Stephanie Seymour...

"Catholic School Girls Rule." The story is that Anthony Kiedis picked up a chick at a show in Louisiana in the 90s. She said she was 18. He took her along on the tour bus to the next few shows, when she confesses that she is 14, the daughter of a police chief, and the entire state is looking for her. He wrote that they had sex one last time, and he sent her on her way and wrote the song.

On the 16-17 year old thing, Joan Jett sings of a 17 year old "standing by the record machine"

I remember thinking Aerosmith's "Rag Doll" was pretty pervy when the video came out when I was a teen.

"Baby It's Cold Outside" is charming IMO, but date rape song apparently.

I saw Public Enemy and Ice-T/Body Count at UMd back in the day. Hundreds of police officers and others were protesting outside of the venue. Ice-T said he promised he wouldn't perform the song. Public Enemy closed the show with the song. I remember exiting the venue and kids were still singing the song as we passed the protest. I look back on it now with mixed feelings. To be clear, "Cop Killer" was about police brutality.

I believe it was 1992. A state trooper had been killed days before the concert.

Anonymous wrote:"Into the Night" for all you 16 yr old questioners

She's just 16 years old
Leave her alone, they say
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
But I want you to know
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen, ever seen
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
It's like having a dream
Where nobody has a heart, noboby baby
It's like having it all
And watching it fall apart
And I would wait 'til the end
Of time for you
And do it again, it's true, baby
I can't measure my love
There's nothing to compare it to
But I want you to know
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Oh, if I could fly
I'd pick you up
And into the night, take you
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah
Come on, help me out
Oh, oh, oh
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you, show you a love
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
And into the night
(Into the night)

ughhhh this song, it was always playing when I was in 4th/5th grade and it gave me the most sick feeling in my stomach. like you know the sick feeling that they reference in the "bad touch good touch" lessons. insure the guy who song or wrote it actually was a full on pedo. that song gives me anxiety.

Magic carpet ride always bugged me for the following:

Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride

A grown man telling a “little girl” to go away with him. Yuck.

Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart

The women I've known I wouldn't let tie my shoe
They wouldn't give you the time of day
But the slit-eyed lady knocked me off my feet
God, I was glad I found her

Lola

Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said little boy won't you come home with me
Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me

Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
La-la-la-la Lola

My first thought after reading the title of this thread was not of this Kink’s song, but of their other song “Art Lover” from their LP ->> Give The People What They Want 🎵 🎶

It’s kind of creepy singing about a grown man hanging at the park (on a Sunday afternoon) just to look at little girls while assuring them he is not a “flasher in a raincoat.”

I also agree w/the song “Turning Japanese” by the Vapors even though the song is about master____on.
The video where the guy is making his eyes slanted is very offensive indeed.

What’s wrong with this? Seems unobjectionable.

A great song, one of their best even if you can make it past the lyrical content…..

There are songs with all of these lyrics and themes flying today. You just don't know about them.

Yes, but most of the songs listed here were mainstream. Cop Killer may be the only underground questionable song. Beastie Boys' "Brass Monkey", a song about a drink which loosens women up and in which they mention giving a woman a drink with Spanish fly in it and then having sex with her was played on the radio constantly.
