Reviving this thread since June is here. When do we actually hear what the suggested math path forward will be? |
MS MATH PLACEMENT FOR SY 2022-2023: Math Placement for the 2022-2023 school year will be completed and communicated during the last week of June. Please note that the Math Office will use data acquired through Quarter 4 to determine course offerings for rising 6th graders and to make placement recommendations for all APS students who will be in middle school during the 2022-2023 school year. For students who are ready for a compacted curriculum in 6th grade, we plan to offer Pre-Algebra for 6th graders. It is important to note that students will be offered extensions in all middle school mathematics course offerings as they demonstrate readiness. |
Thank you! |
it is not about affording to pay...look AOPS is like 76 bucks and Khan is free...its about affording to spend some of your personal mental health resources on guiding your kids to do math.It does take a lot of frustration tolerance.... |
The recommendation letters are posted in ParentVue. |
Where was this posted? |
Nm ignore me. I realized this was a year ago. |
This does not make sense. 5th graders do not take the 6th grade math SOL. Also I've never heard of a perfect score being required, it certainly wasn't the case for my kids. |
Is an 850 on Math Inventory good enough to qualify for Prealgebra in 6th? |
There were folks on this boars that said 900 but I know kids who scored under 900 and were placed in pre algebra. So it is not just based on MI or if it is, the floor is not 900.. |
Does anyone know the math inventory required for pre-algebra for 7th?
Kid was super bored in math 6, but had an off-day for the EOY math inventory. Scored about the same as the mid year. Is ~940 high enough for rising 7th graders? |
Hopefully the floor is closer to 750 - our student loves math but can be bored in class. |
My kid got under 900 on MI at end of 5th grade but there were unique circumstances (MI was his first day back at school after being out for two weeks due to illness) and he did well on SOL and COGAT. But we had to reach out to middle school math coordinator to explain the circumstances. once we did, she immediately said he should try pre-algebra and he did well in the class this year and did well on the MI and SOL at end of 6th grade. |
As far as I can see, no, unless there were mitigating circumstances and everything else (teacher report, SOL, cogat) is much higher. |
You can love math and not be ready for pre-algebra. Do you know what the SOL score is? |
