Teach Me Teen Lingo

If your teen says something "sucks" they don't mean it actually sucks like a vacuum. It means something is boring, bad, not fun, etc.

Ok Elmer Fudd. That isn’t a teen thing. And not new.

TLDR for “to summarize”
I’ve heard fire but not brick
There was another one they were saying the other day but now I’ve forgotten it—it will come to me.

TLDR is ‘too long, didn’t read’. If you post many, long winded paragraphs, you can end it with a tdlr version as in a short, summarized version with one or two sentences.

Fire doesn’t mean hot. Fire means really good, often in reference to food. “That Mac and cheese looks fire”

Yes. You wouldn’t say a person looks fire or is fire if they’re attractive, but you might use the fire emoji 🔥🔥🔥 to express that, say in a comment on someone’s Instagram post where they look good.

They use “period” and “that’s on period” on its own to indicate agreement with someone else.

“Wow that math test was so hard”
“And that’s on period”

Pick me isn’t a try hard. Being a pick me is internalized misogyny. A pick me girl is someone who puts other girls down or sets herself apart from girls to be liked by boys.

Also, salty means jealous or resentful, not ticked off.

Period died in 2019. The only people who use this now are the blaccent insta children making fun of what they think a stereotypical black girl does. #facts

Idk I see it all over TikTok still by gen z, not just millennials trying to be hip. You’re right though in that most of the “teen lingo” is AAVE that gets appropriated.

My teen DD is a very talented gymnast, so when I overheard her tell a friend on the phone that she wanted to "roll a joint" I naturally assumed she was referring to some sort of stretching. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that "roll a joint" is the newest teen lingo for rolling a marijuana cigarette.
