All else being equal, which it never is:
UC Berkeley UVA Notre Dame Colgate Boston College UMD Colby Bates Villanova Tulane Boston University Fordham |
This might be my favorite response. The poster obviously *knows* this exercise is inane but she still can't help herself.

I hire in the CS sphere. Berkeley and UMD (CP) would get second looks on the basis of the college name, as long as their academics are decent. That's pretty much it. Everyone needs to be able to do well on their 'How would you solve this problem?' type of question, to get hired.
In this field, and especially for newbies, it's all about what you can do, and how well you perform under pressure. |
+1 This is how I'd rank also. |
Yeah, this is a very dumb post. These are all great schools. What is the OP trying to prove? |
My UMBC hires have opened the door for future grad because they have been excellent. |
Why would anyone go to UVA over Notre Dame if tuition is same unless wants to stay near mommy LOL. Why would anyone wants to go to the overcrowded pubic school if tuition is same unless engineeinr or CS. The data clearly agrees with me. People have weired imagination. |

10 people would have 10 different opinions, so as far as ranking goes, we should just go with the industry standard.
https://premium.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities #19 Notre Dame #22 UC Berkeley #25 UVA My personal opinion agrees with the standard. Why would anyone go to those overcrowded schools over a solid T20 school if cost is the same. |
but it's not "industry standard" to look at a magazine's rankings of colleges when deciding who to hire/interview. LOL. Ok, so Notre Dame is three places higher than Berkeley on a magazine's ranking list. Great. Are you under the impression that the hiring folks are like "well, we have these two candidates, Susie went to Notre Dame and Esmerelda went to Berkeley and Notre Dame is 3 slots higher than Berkeley, so Susie it is!!!" I promise you, it's not. This has nothing to do with Notre Dame vs. Berkeley, it has to do with the fact that that's just not the way the professional world works. |
Thank you for this perspective. I am always surprised to see UVA ranked way higher than UMD, while UMD ranks quite high in CS. I guess UMD only ranks high in CS, which is fine as colleges are selected based on major. |
Exactly. I’ve been doing this for decades and I’ve never once looked at college rankings. With that said, I will encourage my kids to include the career center in their research as they consider options, because they can play a huge role, and are not created equal. |
Well, Notre Dame has been a T20 school for the past 10-20 years consistently.'' Again, Berkeley cheated and got caught for this non-important non-standard ranking LOL. Must be very important for them. This was only 2019 LOL Wow these Berkeley people have no shame. Professional world doesn't think any differently Enough of the imaginations. |
because ND us Catholic and in the midst of nowhere. |
? That really wasn't the question though. Which grad are firms more likely to hire. I'd say in this area Uva. maybe, depends on the major of course. |
I have strong views on how the Catholic church treats women, especially in view of its politics on women's reproductive health. I wouldn't trust any ND grad to view women as equal to men. Big pass. |
