Ouch. I presume you have an SEC political appointment? Hopefully it pays off for your family.

Thanks. We’ve been doing it since September. I know it’s been harder for DH and me than DD. But she’s in such a great school in NYC that it doesn’t make sense to move her unless she’s in a great school here. Even GDS and Sidwell aren’t as highly ranked as her school in NYC.

Food for thought: Nobody cares about high school "ranks." They are not real. Your child's life in your family unit while still a child is far far far more important than some fleeting notion of a high school "rank."

While I agree the "highly ranked" comment came off a bit snobby, if her school in NYC is working well for her, she has friends and a strong social life, and is happy there, it might actually not make sense to move her to a new city/state where she has no friends, etc., unless you're really confident in the strength of the school and think it will be a good fit (regardless of "rank"), even if it means she sees Mom only on weekends. Different things work for different families.

+1 High school friends are social life is way more important than mom and dad.

More food for thought -- Who TF cares what these people do? I'm sure they are competent parents and have thought about it carefully. So what if you would do something differently or even do the same thing. Stop derailing the thread with gratuitous advice no one asked for.

Right!? As if the parents don’t know by now what is best for their own child. Back off, judgy people!

No idea on first choice because DC only shadowed 1 school. Hoping schools will allow more shadow days when accepted so that we can make a better, more informed decision.

The Heights already sent decisions?

The Heights sent out early notification decisions only; I believe regular admissions decisions are on sent out on our about February 24th.

If I recall correctly, candidates had to complete their application by an earlier date to be eligible for the early notification, which seems pretty standard practice.

You'll definitely get in if your full pay.

This is our first rodeo – when schools (not specifically flint hill) say that admissions doesn’t consider need/full pay when making a decision – and some go as far as to say that admissions doesn’t even know if someone has applied for FA or not – is that just feel-good BS? Or does it vary by school?

The school will let you in without looking at FA if it’s need-blind. However, the school may not have agreed to meet your “full demonstrated financial need”. That is a different question—how much FA will the school give?

So you can get in but still need to pay too much, even with FA.
