+1
It peaked with the Kennedys and then held on through the 80s. There has always been a disproportionate amount of crime in Georgetown vs other well off NW neighborhoods. I never understood the allure

For God's sake- you prissy suburbanites are too much. You can have your Youngkin in your Vienna cul de sac.

It’s all those people coming in from Virginia.

Uh, no. Virginians who used to frequent Georgetown now avoid it like the plague. Nice try, though.

Going to be even tougher for restaurants and shops to recover from covid if we can't get people to head to touristy spots due to violent crime.

Is PP correct that there have been multiple shootings at the Columbia heights metro station during prime time hours? I had t heard that, and find that super concerning.

Yes, in the station, on a train and outside, should come up in Google, it is very concerning.

Are you kidding? A shooting in Georgetown makes you nervous? It doesn’t matter where you send her to college. She’s at risk everywhere. That’s life. We are playing a game of frogger trying to avoid what can get us everytime we leave the house. I heard someone was driving down east west hwy and a tree fell on car and killed a mom. If she leaves the house 30 seconds later, she lives. You really just never know when it’s your time to go

416 people were murdered in DC in 2021.

Lie.

+1 That number includes Fairfax, MoCo, and PG counties. DC was at just under 200 by itself, which is high enough without adding in the burbs.

I mean, fairfax county is like 50% higher population than dc and had 21 total homicides in 2021. Let's not pretend it's a significant contributor to the crime in the area lol
Plus 1. I live in Montgomery county and I’ve heard about 4 murders here in about 20 years. I don’t think we add to that total either.

We live inside the beltway in VA.

Georgetown is dead to us. Sad, because I went to American and used to LOVE the old Georgetown.

Yes as soon as you move out of the city you become your parents. They do not have Applebee’s or the Cracker Barrel in Georgetown.

Give it awhile, every store there is a chain, maybe the restaurants will follow suit eventually.

Did you not watch Jen Psaki yesterday?

She said there is no “crime crisis” in our cities, but only right-wing media outlets whipping up hysteria.

So:

- there was no shooting in Georgetown. It didn’t happen. Stop talking about it. Everything is fine.

They do not have any restaurants, or the entire mall anymore in Georgetown.

It’s all gone.

Or hadn’t you noticed?

Georgetown is gross. All the cute shops are gone. It is hell finding anywhere to park and then you're worried the entire time you are parked that your car will be broken into. Traffic is nuts with Ubers and cabs blocking roads or doing illegal U turns all over the place. The restaurants as a whole aren't good either. Don't forget about all the rats. I would rather pay the delivery fee to get Georgetown cupcakes then actually make a special trip out there to get them. It's depressing. I used to live in Foggy Bottom in grad school and was over there all the time. But now, no. And I won't allow my young teens to go there either on their own.

I can get better shopping and a nice experience in many other places in DC and Virginia.

Way too much money for that to happen. Detroit and Baltimore are "hell". The District is beyond filthy rich.

It is true average HHI is high in the District. But we have a city council that seems intent on driving the geese who lay the golden eggs out of the city. Despite full coffers, they raise taxes with no clear objective except equity. They do not prosecute teenagers who stick a gun in your face for the sake of a joy ride. People will simply vote with their feet as Council members simply dismiss any complaints.
