The school we are considering is a perfect fit for our children (1st and PK), but is 25-30 minutes away with typical traffic. We currently do 10-15 minutes and it feels very doable. I am not concerned about the kids in school, because this school also has a shorter day by about 30-60 minutes than any other school (public or private) we've looked at. I'm more concerned for me and the two year old little sibling who will be making two round trips daily.
This is not a school that we would use for upper elementary or middle school, so the situation would not be forever.
As an elementary kid, I went to a rural school and I was the last kid on the bus in the morning (under 10 minutes including unloading) and the first one to be dropped off(15 minutes including after school loading). Middle and high school was a 10 minute morning drive by my parents on their way to work, and 1+ hour in the afternoon on the rural route. Getting my license and being able to drive myself to and from school was sweet sweet liberation from 5 years of a terrible bus commute.
I’ve done the 25/30 min commute with a toddler in the back. Not fun and really screws up nap times etc
If it’s a perfect fit and you get in then I would seriously consider moving closer to the school.
