How far do you drive to school?

Our preschool was .25 miles from home and our K-8 is .75 miles. We usually walked to preschool unless one of us was dropping off on the way somewhere else in the car. We usually drive to K-8, since it's across a busy street, but it's walkable if necessary, and we've done it a few times.

This is not feasible unless one purposefully moves next door to a school they’ve already accepted. So it’s a dumb post.

+1. Seriously, for how many people would this work?

Jeez, just answering the question. I'll just be over here enjoying my choices.

5 minutes. 2.7 miles with very little traffic. Rural.

We do 20-25 minutes, now in middle school. Child is very happy at the school and it’s a good fit but I wish we were closer. Looking back, I’d try to keep it to 15 min or less.

OP - an interesting variety of responses.

The school we are considering is a perfect fit for our children (1st and PK), but is 25-30 minutes away with typical traffic. We currently do 10-15 minutes and it feels very doable. I am not concerned about the kids in school, because this school also has a shorter day by about 30-60 minutes than any other school (public or private) we've looked at. I'm more concerned for me and the two year old little sibling who will be making two round trips daily.

This is not a school that we would use for upper elementary or middle school, so the situation would not be forever.

As an elementary kid, I went to a rural school and I was the last kid on the bus in the morning (under 10 minutes including unloading) and the first one to be dropped off(15 minutes including after school loading). Middle and high school was a 10 minute morning drive by my parents on their way to work, and 1+ hour in the afternoon on the rural route. Getting my license and being able to drive myself to and from school was sweet sweet liberation from 5 years of a terrible bus commute.

We are considering something like this. Hate for that type of commute, but the deal is being discussed may be to pass up. We are waiting to see what type of official acceptances we get though.

May be looking for a new home soon. The things we do for our kids.

We used to live a teeny five minute drive and it was annoying with the constant 50 mins back and forth.
Now we live 8 mins away and it is life changing for the kid and for me. So much easier with after school commitments and makes life mush less hectic.

Twenty! (Above) NOT teeny, but a 5 min drive would be even better!!

6 minute drive to the bus stop then DC is on the bus for 30 minutes.

I miss the 10 min commute. We're now at anywhere between 25-32 minutes one way.

9 minutes. Sometimes I run back and forth to school 4-5 times a day because we have three kids there who also do sports and after school activities.

2 hours a day in the car, so 30 mins there and back twice a day, is a lot for the 2 yr old. That would get old really fast.

About 10 minutes and it's a nice amount of time. I would do up to 20 if needed, but wouldn't do more than that.

This is exactly what we are doing - currently on the Hill, applying for Prek4. We will move close to the school. If kiddo changes schools, we will reassess.
