How far do you drive to school?

How far would you be willing to drive for a school that's a great fit for young kids (pre-K/lower elementary)? I'm measuring the commute in time. 20 minutes? 30 minutes? Longer? How does that compare to average length of time on the bus for a public school?

I've driven 30-45 minutes and I don't recommend it. Drive 20-25 minutes for current school but that's a public school and except if you have the time, I don't recommend it as for pick up its not just the drive back and forth but also the wait time.

Remember to consider that commute time when your DCs are in MS/HS. If at all possible, you do not want more than 20-30 one way as that's time that could be going into HW, ECs, jobs, etc.

I used to drive my little ones 30 min. to DC. It wasn't easy for them or me. In 3rd grade they started a different school. 12 minutes away from home-BLISS.

I was willing to drive in direction of my commute 15-20 minutes, but not in a different direction. We looked at variety of schools for pre-k kid but ultimately chose to apply to a couple of schools that were close by, and chose the one that is under 5 minutes drive.

We drive about 3.5 miles - 10-15 minutes. That's it.

The public school bus takes 20-30 minutes each way. For the kid; it’s the same commute time as would be for your kid, but for parents, bus is easier cause they don’t drive.

Do you release that every family’s situation is different? Your process here seems to be misguided.

OP is interested in others experiences. Nothing misguided about that.

45 minutes. It’s brutal. House hunting to be closer and in our ideal neighborhood. We will be 15 minutes.

Is it that far because of traffic?

Our commute is about 20 minutes - a little more or less depending on traffic. For the kids, it isn't that bad because they only go one way - it is a pain for me driving though because it means about 1.5 hours in the car a day. Think about that aspect too, that it is double for you.

Also on top of the commute, add another 15 minutes or more for waiting in the carpool line!!
