We need to let our kids experience some amount of adversity when they’re are younger and teach them coping skills. As a community of adults, we also need to model how we deal with stress, without the use of alcohol, drugs, pills, etc. Those that are financially better off tend to have more opportunity to bulldoze problems our children may encounter. Of course parents don’t want their children to struggle but we need to evaluate the long term impact of doing so.

Well said. Allow children to experience pain/sadness/tears. It’s essential. Parents who deny their children normal and healthy emotions are incredibly selfish. |
It is good to hear that you do not sound worried. We Can only go by what young people tell us and many of them say they are anxious about climate change: there have been youth demonstrations all over the world. Many mental health professionals report very high rates of anxiety and depression among youth and that many of them report feeling hopeless about the future. Large numbers of youth either do not want children or are delaying for years due to concerns about the stability of their futures. |
