All schools in Montgomery County are diverse. Some are more diverse than others.

Boundary maps around Kensington are going to be redrawn in a few years when a new HS opens. I would focus on being in a neighborhood you like as school assignments are not set in stone.

Most likely WJ students would go to Woodward. I understand that some Einstein neighborhoods want to go to Woodward too but I guess that depends on the politics. Kensington doesn’t have the same clout that it used to.

That is the reason Woodward is being reopened, to relieve overcrowding at WJ and the DCC schools, mainly Einstein and Wheaton. It's not about any neighborhood "wanting to go to Woodward."

That’s not the reason. You have been posting this same nonsense for a long time.

It literally is the reason:

"Reopening of Woodward High School is required to address the urgent space needs at Walter Johnson High School and the Downcounty Consortium high schools."

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/facilities/construction/project/woodwardhs.aspx

Yes, it was a clear effort at disinformation. But for what reason? I can't figure that one out, unless it's just a regular or pro troll.

You Woodward is for DCC people are weird and bizarre. Be prepared to be very disappointed.

Or alternatively you the “super secret plan not in writing anywhere” for BCC and Whitman (which literally just had an expansion completed) is going to be a part of populating Woodward poster are weird and bizarre

First and foremost, Woodward is being built to reduce ridiculous levels of overcrowding at WJ that will take it to nearly 3700 students in just a few years. But if that was the only issue, MCPS would not be building Woodward. However, there is a need to also accommodate additional students that would be generated from the massive amount of approved development along the 355 corridor. If they have any seats left after that, may be they will give them to DCC on a special basis. But I doubt it. Your weird belief that it’s somehow about BCC is very strange. It’s about what is being planned near the Strathmore and White Flint metros and everything in between. 5,000 housing units have been approved at just the White Flint Mall site and Strathmore Metro stations combined. You have a weird fixation that is going to get sorely disappointed in the end.

Where are you getting that number? MCPS projects WJ enrollment to be ~2900, about 600 students overcapacity by the time Woodward opens. Woodward's capacity will be 2159 students.

700k is going to be tough. Crossing the American Legion Bridge a few times a week may even be tougher. First shop your price range and then try to match with the best schools as you can. You should honestly even consider Virginia due to your commute.

I would reiterate the earlier recommendation for neighborhoods feeding to Montgomery Blair or Einstein. You can find homes in your price range (more likely in Einstein) and both schools happen to have DCC academy programs related to business. These are like elective tracks that cover themed topics, and they're open to anyone attending the school.

Agreed, except for the commute. I'm in-bounds for Blair and can't imagine a rush-hour commute to Tyson's a few times a week.

But, but, but I don’t want my kids to attend HS with kids from the DCC! I bought my house baaed on its location and the schools it is bounded for. Woodward just needs to be just half of WJ so that I can keep my kids in the bubble I paid for. Do I have that right

Any thought or advice would be appreciated.

A lot of the posts on this board are by political operatives with an agenda and very out of touch with the mainstream.

Your max is 700k? You don't have many choices. Just go for the house you want that you can afford. You can't be picky. There was a house in my Wheaton neighborhood that just went for over 700K. A lot of people on this board are out of touch with how expensive housing has gotten in the "good school" areas.

Kensington area homeowners hoping that a school boundary change will improve their property values is pretty LOL.

So wait, you're saying this boundary thing is a bunch of WJ parents being upset that their kids might have to go school with kids who are now zoned to Einstein?

Wow.

And this is one reason I like our unpopular DCC school. So far off these crazy peoples' radar that the kids just get an education.
