I think my au pair might be lying about her age

A catchy song from 2000. Whether you like it or not, it stays trapped in your brain forever.

This isn't a coworker. It's an employee taking care of children. See the difference?

Before your mom said anything, did you think she looked "older"?

You have 0 proof she's lying.

But you know what? You already don't trust her, through no fault of her own. This won't end well for her.

You’re joking but I had been trying to put it out of my mind, and then bizarrely she knew a reference from a 1990s kids movie that isn’t a “cult classic” and I was like, ??? And then started this thread.

What movie?

How is that bizarre? Plenty of other countries watch American movies from all eras out of sync from when Americans do.

Jeez.

Especially some of the countries that send APs to the US…

I mean, maybe? If someone claimed to be a 22 yr old recent college graduate and had crows feet and forehead lines I might do a little digging for a graduation announcement.

Why? What’s it to you?

If someone is faking their identity? Seems like a big deal to me in any work environment.

Misrepresenting one’s age to avoid ageism is a far cry from “faking an identity”. What a nosy Nellie you are.

What? There is no ageism here.

How naive you are.

The OP is alleging that the AP misrepresentated her age to her government to her government to get a passport and then to the au pair agency to get a job and then to the US government to get a visa. That definitely qualifies as faking an identity.

It’s an entirely different thing from letting your coworkers think you are a few years younger.

This. You should be replacing her, for her sake.

Why would she lie about her age for an 8 year age difference? I think its highly unlikely that an au pair would use a fake birth certificate and therefore passport?? when applying for the au pair VISA with the US government and extremely likely that they would know and would have found out. It's crazy.

Au pairs have an age ceiling. That is part of the program. Literally not ageism. Sorry you don't understand what ageism is, but I hope you get educated on it

Sure, it's not really that difficult in other countries to use others documents or falsify and pay a bribe. It is what it is.

Actually, many other countries have pretty solid databases of their citizens and people have passports as the norm. We don't wote with our utility bills, you know

Sounds like OP doesn't like the au pair, or is tired of paying her, and looking for a way to get out of the contract where it's not her fault.
