Karl Frisch and the Stupidity of Dunn Loring ES

The Dunn Loring site seems like it will be able to ease capacity pressure at BOTH Mosaic AND the various schools in greater Tysons area / FC outskirts. It's the frustration just because it's going to take longer to achieve the relief this way? Because long-term it seems the obviously superior choice.

Dunn Loring ES will be almost 6 miles from Mosaic ES. It won’t do anything to ease future capacity pressure there.

Maybe you’re confusing Mosaic ES with the Mosaic District, which feeds to Fairhill ES in a different pyramid.

What future capacity issues? Mosaic is being expanded.

Yes, Mosaic is being expanded to 1050 seats. That will be over twice the size of the enrollment at each of Dunn Loring, Stenwood, and Freedom Hill after Frisch’s Folly is complete.

Too bad they are creating one monster ES in Fairfax/Oakton and three runts further east but that’s what passes as planning in FCPS these days. Still doesn’t suggest any need to re-open Dunn Loring now.

Frisch styles himself as an environmentalist and many in that crowd prioritize parks over schools.

However, kids are important to society, we need schools for kids, and in the long run making more kids travel longer distances to big schools isn’t necessarily environmentally friendly or conducive to learning. However, Frisch and his cronies would probably just as soon dispense with physical schools entirely and make all “learning” remote anyway.

So glad my kids will be done with FCPS soon.

Melanie Meren did suggest that more remote was the "solution" to overcrowding. She did this with a straight face.

And probably around the time she was making sure her own kids had a learning pod with a private teacher…

What we’ll get with Dunn Loring are more administrators running smaller-than-average elementary schools with less money for teachers.

He went to UVA. Do more research

Not sure why you resurrected am old thread to say this. But since it popped up - I just saw that the draft parks budget has money for improving Blake Lane park. I guess that further cements its status as not a school site? Even though it was meant to be a school property, and we badly need it?

To do what? Attend a conference?

Nothing I’ve read indicates he has a college degree and his bio says nothing about having a degree from UVA.

Given the amount of detail on his bio about his and his partner’s dog, I think we’d be reading about his academic accomplishments, if there were any. The guy is a joke.

Frisch does not have kids in FCPS.

In fact, he does not have any kids. He is not a parent.

Why, exactly, is he on a board for schools for children?

It’s like asking why do people live in studio apartments. It was the cheapest political office he could find.

By the time FCPS was about ready to start the study the projections had changed, so Megan pulled it. She didn’t ask for anything in return, but just said it was no longer a priority.

That is how School Board members should behave, not like Karl Frisch with this nutty scheme at Dunn Loring that is clearly more about saving a dog park than anything else.

I have watched many work sessions and she is consistently the most informed, most considerate of community concerns and the most thoughtful.

I would vote for her if I lived in her district, and her stepping down is a real loss to the county.

+1. Great analogy.

Can someone suggest which new candidates are actually running because they care about academics and not their own pathetic political ambition?

In general, the GOP-endorsed candidates running for SB seem to care more about academics because they know it’s so difficult for anyone who isn’t a Democrat to get elected to local office. A few might get elected to SB given the level of disgust with the current SB, but it’s not like they’re going to parlay that into a seat on the BOS or the state legislature. In comparison, we’ve seen a steady stream of Ds on the SB seeking higher office (Kory, Niedzielski-Eichner, Moon, Smith, Storck, Palchik, McElveen, Frisch, Cohen, Pekarsky).

Does anyone actually want an elementary school at Blake Lane? It was very very opposed by the community.
