Tufts - what is the atmosphere like?

Anonymous
Tufts is ranked in the lower 20s.

#28 tied with;
U. California--Santa Barbara
New York U.
U. Florida
Wake Forrest
U. North Carolina - Chapel Hill

I don't know where people got the perception, but Tufts is a fine school if people just stop pretending they just missed Ivy level schools.

It is interesting how much more difficult it is to get into Tufts from the DC area (at our mcps hs, based on naviance it is akin to say Wash U and a step harder than Emory although Emory by now might be right at same level of difficulty) than any of those colleges tied in ranking, in particular Wake and UCSB, which attract very fine students but at a lower gpa and sat per our school’s naviance.

Yeah I have two friends whose very high-achieving kids applied to Tufts ED (both went); it was their first choice.

Yes Tufts has simlar student stats as Boston University and Northeastern University.

Seems irrelevant give how little crossover of interest there is between these schools. Each has a different niche interest group and few who apply to one apply to the other two.

Not really.

CDS stats show Tufts with high standardized scores and GPA.

Most privates don't include GPA, and that includes Tufts.

Yes all three schools are very different but very similar to each other in prestige.

As PP references above, this is an irrelevant compasirson as the three schools pull from different populations. There is very little overlap in applicant pool.

Likely not as Naviance does not differenciate between Emory College and Emory-Oxford.
Tufts is the same level for Emory college or even a half step below considering yeild protection at Tufts.

Of the sub-top privates, it goes something like Vandy/Rice > WashU/Emory > NYU/USC > Tufts.

No
USC > NYU/Tufts

This is an honest and blunt depiction of student body.

They’re all great schools with different vibes. My DC is having an awesome time at Tufts with incredible academic opportunities, fun social life and so many activities to keep busy and meet people. Plus they’ve done a great job with Covid.

I couldn’t care less where Tufts lands in the rankings or prestige scales. It’s the right place for my very high achieving DC who cares more about collaboration with people who want to learn, rather than impressing people who don’t know much about the school.
