No threads on Landon’s Kristian Fletcher signing for Dortmund?

I'd note that this "article" is still based on a single tweet from over two weeks ago (by Keith Costigan), which was a correction from a previous tweet when he said it was Bayern Munich. No post from Kristian, nothing from Dortmund, nothing from any other reporter, over two weeks later. So I'd say it is far from confirmed that this has actually happened. Of course it may have, or could still -- it's not crazy, he's a great player. But moving on to critique how much (or not) people are taking note of this news seems quite premature. Is it even news yet?

I have heard that it’s true from a knowledgeable source, however, I doubt the club will announce it until he reaches 16 (if he has a Euro passport) or 18.

He is 16 already. But, your knowledgeable source is probably correct! Which is super-cool for Kristian, his family and DMV soccer. My point was simply that a thread that starts off taking us (the local soccer community) to task for not celebrating this feat more is a bit premature, given that we are still looking to an anonymous person quoting "a knowledgeable source" to tell if this has actually happened.

This should be celebrated. So should the scouting department at Dortmund!

I think we’ve established that the original post was ridiculous for a variety of reasons.

why DC United missed him?

Lots of kids prefer to stay with BSC for DA/MLSNext as BSC is not only more convenient, but also more stable and often has better teams than DCUnited. Sounds like BSC was willing to accommodate his desire to play for Landon in the Fall as well. Worked out well for him!

Unfortunately for DC it is not the most desired location to play. Yes, it is free now. You are welcome to the meat market and constant recruitment of 10's who will sit on the bench or play the right-back position. They have a long way to go in the MLS Academy world.

When you say 10s, do you mean position 10? Do they lean towards that position when recruiting?

I believe the poster was referring to the position of 10's being what we called center mid-fielder. Of playmaker and or great footwork player. I do agree with this sediment. If you watch a game they are very individualized and lack true defenders. Great talent no doubt.

That’s awesome! I love to see the guys who played in college beating the odds, and I liked watching him play at UVA.

No boggy. If you have a sports scholarship to private school BSC always accommodates. They just don’t like it if top players play for their public school.

Considering their Academy, Blue and Green teams at the U15-U19 levels are typically filled with players who play public high school soccer and either win HS state championships or are Washington Post All-Met HS teams, this isn’t remotely true. Also, many of the BSC coaches Coach public HS soccer…so yeah.

Can we keep the axe grinding to a minimum? This thread is about a kid who potentially earned a chance to play at one of the top clubs in the world. For once it would be nice to keep things positive rather than turning it into another 100999 pages of personal beef.
