Return to work- fed edition

I’m a federal financial regulator and we’ve been told we’re in max telework status through the end of June 2022.

I don't understand the logic either. Why force people in the middle of flu season/delta/omicron? Seems crazy to me.

Then it will be why go during Omicron 2.0, why go during the summer, why go at the start of school year

I’m very cautious, but if you need to get back there may never be a good time.

Why go during Omicron is a valid question. The other two of your examples are not. One is real risk and the other two are convenience/inconvenience issues not public health related

After what happened to USDA during the last administration, moving would be a huge gamble. Don’t know anyone who has.

why and do what?

Make sure everything is ready, equipment is there and plan for employee return. We’ve had a lot of turn over and I have new employees who have never been in the office/ don’t have cubicles.

I don't think mine knows how to plug in a computer.

It’s more about getting the facilities and IT staff to get their end of things done. Watching it, pestering if needed.

Oh good grief. Just admit you don’t want to go back because it’s less convenient. I sincerely doubt the majority of people upset about being asked to go back are still hiding at home in fear. Some are, sure. Many, many people in all sorts of careers have been back in workplaces for quite some time now. Quit looking for excuse after excuse.

Weird response. I am not looking for an excuse. At the end of the day we do what govt tells us to do. But that doesn’t mean we can ask questions.

FDA just delayed until further notice.

I know several people who have moved away. They are betting (correctly, IMO) that their skills are such that their bosses will make exceptions rather than try to replace them. They are mostly specialized engineers and economists.

Also, how many USDA workers actually came in, given the lack of desks? That was a show for the base.

Times have changed.

"Return to work," OP? What have you been doing? Working much harder than usual since the pandemic started over here

Personally I do want to return to work, but even I was shocked. Coworkers are a little bitter.

About time. Some of us have had to come in the whole time due to our classified nature of work. Its amazing how many folks claiming to work from home have been slacking. Hell to get hold of CO which would be instant has been taking weeks.

This.

DP. My DH has worked in person the entire time too. I want to go back to the office, at least part of the week, but now we are hearing they will be using shifts, requiring masks, and limiting conference room use. I feel like the worst-case would be going back to my hole in the wall office and then not be able to interact with anyone anyway. What’s the point?

Yeah but anyone who’s paying attention to the political landscape would see it could change again in 3 years. Unfortunately more likely than not. :/

At our agency, most employees are on production quotas. We saw increased output on max telework. This is probably an outlier as most fed positions productivity can't be as easily measured.

I am concerned about this, and about the metro running smoothly. I can maximize the hours I work by working at home.
