Haha so this. This reminds me of those posts where people don’t know how to say X to their siblings and I wonder if they actually grew up in the same house or ever fought about who had to sit in the back of the station wagon. |
| I’ve experienced this too. I’d prefer that the friend just say they have earned their money and are enjoying it rather than hide behind self-deprecation. But I wouldn’t say this to their face. It’s just society doesn’t look favorably upon people who are wealthy and happy and have more. The people who honestly don’t care are ones that exited the rat race long ago or are also wealthy. |
|
I don’t know what’s more pathetic: OP, who is obviously jealous of her friend, or all of the responders saying “OMG I’m rich and do the same thing!”
God I hate DCUM sometimes. |
| I avoid very wealthy people because of this weirdness. I’m UMC but have access to very wealthy people because of my job and background. I am friendly but don’t want to deal with this type of weirdness. |

I know more people who act rich but aren’t very wealthy.
DH earns a seven figure income. We downplay how much he earns. We don’t talk about money. |
| It’s probably her siblings or mother. It sounds like the DH doesn’t have issues spending money and posting it on social media! |
You aren’t wealthy if you are working to earn a 7 figure income. My def of wealthy are those who can maintain their lifestyle without working for it. This could be someone earning $100k per year. |
Money is fleeting and often sad. |
Your definition sounds like retirement |
