Relocate to Richmond?

I’m sure it’s a pleasant place to live for those who want a slower pace of life and can be happy with a small city. But let’s acknowledge it’s limitations too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Richmond also lacks any major league sports franchises. Another drawback of a small city.

There’s nothing wrong with Richmond but it’s weird for ppl to act like it’s equivalent to DC, which is the nation’s Capital. While Richmond was the capital of a desired different countries long ago it’s not the same.

I’m not being disingenuous at all. I don’t currently live in DC or Richmond, but I have previously lived in both. I’m not saying they’re equivalent—one’s obviously much bigger than the other. But just saying “we have all these amenities” doesn’t mean much if one has to sit in traffic or fight off hordes of people to partake of them.

It also greatly depends on what stage of life you’re in and what kind of overall lifestyle you want. The amenities I cared about at 25 are a lot different than at 45.

You need to relax. No one is making the claim that Richmond is the equivalent of Washington, DC or god forbid Baltimore (yikes), but you seem really bent out of shape with posters posting pros and recommendations re Richmond. What gives? It is just irrational to completely dismiss anything about Richmond. I believe the OP wanted to know why someone should relocate there, what it has to offer, etc. So posters are listing that. I can't wrap my head around why posters are such snobs and elitists and want to throw shade at every single positive Richmond post. So immature. Just because some posters like Richmond and have reasons why it might be a nice place to live doesn't mean anything about DC.

Not sure why you are defensive when anyone points out the disadvantages of Richmond. Every place has pluses and minuses.

Personally much prefer Baltimore to Richmond, but doesn’t surprise me that someone who says “god forbid, Baltimore-yikes” is a staunch defender of the sleepy capital of the confederacy. That’s your new neighbors, op.

We are seeking a slower pace of life, good Catholic schools (into high school), decent house with a yard, high speed internet.

Bonus is RVA is not that far from the beach. Now I have no idea if those beaches are any good. But toes in ocean is possible.

We both lived in major cities (NYC) and know what we’re missing. 1000% ready for that.

I also have lived and worked in Baltimore and to each their own but it was not a wonderful place to live, at all.

PS - I love VA Beach it’s def more urban than rehobeth or the like but the water is nice. Sandston is super sleepy and only another half hour away.
