No, the Whitman student brought it to morning drop-off:

https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/schools/student-at-churchill-high-brought-knife-to-school-police-say/

Since there are no SROs any more, parents and students had to intervene when he brandished the knife.

SROs more often than not turn tail when faced with any real danger. This is exactly what happened at Parkland. They are not a reliable solution to this problem. One remedy is to remove kids like this from the general population.

So because one SRO turned tail during a mass shooting, we should get rid of all SROs?

It appears they don't serve their intended purpose so yes.

The study I read said 9/10 SRO's will run at the first sign of trouble. The only thing they excel at is harassing minorities.

Cite study please.

About 2/3 of arrests on MCPS property in 2018-2019 were not made by SROs, but by school administrators calling the police. I guess it's the school admin harrassing minorities.

Or... are they? How many of those arrests were thrown out by the prosecutor as bad arrests?

Exact numbers for SRO arrests:

During the 2018-2019 school year, 163 students were arrested on Montgomery County Public School campuses — 42 by student resource officers.

And that's the inconvenient truth for the anti-SROs.

Total bull crap. You made that up. If anything the police run towards trouble while citizens run away.

I'm glad they are doing it!

There is a police hating troll loose in this thread. None of his posts have been deleted yet the post that cited the real problem was deleted

163 out of 165,000 doesn't sound burdensome to me. Some people act like kids don't commit crimes. And that other kids aren't really victims.

Just as an FYI… they still have SRO’s….. they’re just called CEO’s…. How’s that for a loophole. Enrich can say there are no more SRO’s because he changed the name of the program. They are based around the schools and respond in if needed.

Right. They get rid of the best practice of non-enforcement engagement with the kids. And leave them to be close by to arrest them. County leadership is so unbelievably stupid.

+1. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how many studies, anecdotes, or statistics you use. People who are against SROs will simply remain prejudiced against them. The poster above is a great example of that. One SRO during one tragic incident somehow represents all SROs. Logically, we know that’s not the case.
