Does Council bill just let people keep their kids home and not educate them?

in the meantime, there is a huge swath of children in DC who can just disappear.

You all are disgusting. I can't believe you have so little ability to think beyond your own bubbles.

That’s the whole damn point. Do you think those kids are safer if CPS is spending their time doing home visits at the houses of people who are temporarily keeping their kids home because of COVID? No they’re not. It’s a waste of limited resources.

Oh my god you are so steeped in your own privilege that you can't even see it. You say you are "doing the right thing" and therefore CPS can just leave you alone. THAT IS WHAT CHILD ABUSERS DO.

You are so, so disgusting.

This is the craziest take I've ever seen on this site, and that's saying a lot. BTW, my kids are in school, in person. But to say that people who made a different choice should have CPS called on them is ridiculous.

How does the ability to keep your kids home until January without providing them education NOT mean some sort of child abuse?

No, you give a crap about the mayor being slapped down by the Council.

Because they are providing them an education.

My kids are in school. But yeah, I don't think it makes sense for CPS to waste their time on this.

I actually don't give a sh*t about the mayor.

My mother was a teacher at a high-poverty rural school district. She brought stories home all of the time of kids that were reliant on the schools to eat. She told us stories about parents who just 'forgot' to bring their kids to school. She told us stories of kids that had to be removed from their homes because the parents just didn't bother with basics.

How is it ok to just have kids gone from the map, and that's fine for you?

I have no idea what the council is thinking. This is going to be devastating to many DC kids whose parents don't or can't have their kids' best interest at heart. I know it's hard to imagine this but many parents make daily and long-term decisions that harm their kids. We saw this in the pandemic--tons of kids who were not schooled at all because there was no-one in the home to login them on, there were many parents who sold the school-owned devices, etc. And this was just the educational neglect (there is physical neglect, abuse, etc).

just to reiterate this from earlier in the thread.

for those of you who think CPS shouldn't be involved.

Because you say so? Well then, file homeschool forms. If you can't do that, doesn't seem like you are fit to provide your kid an education.

+1

My kids will not be harmed by this. But there are kids who will be, and I care about them.
