Do you let contractors use your bathroom?

Anonymous
We built a new house and contractors had to pop by here and there for a few months. The AC guy only wore a gaiter which made us uncomfortable. One day he asked to use the bathroom and we said of course. He took at #2 in our bathroom! He was in there for a good 15 mins. Thats crossing the line.

No way. They leave Horne all over the seat and floor, or have explosive diarrhea that splatters everywhere.

Ivanka and Jared wouldn’t let Secret Service use their bathroom- so why should I?

My family does contract work for a living and once remarked how inhuman it is to not let a person use the bathroom especially if they are performing work at your house. If its weeks worth of work most people rent a toilet and include that in the price. If it's a painter or all day job any not let them use the restroom? I always let contractors use my restroom. I've never had one who is disrespectful or unclean.

We had a plumber install a new toilet and he promptly “christened” it for us afterwards 🙃. But, I have IBS so am sympathetic there may be reasons people do what they do (pun not intended).

If the job is big, they should rent an outside toilet.

For shorter jobs, I always let contractors use the powder room. I don't think I've ever had one who didn't pee all over the seat and floor.

One had diarrhea on two toilets and it got on the floor and they used napkins and left them in the toilet. It was beyond gross. Our general contractor said that's just the way it is and the guys don't want to use the potty outside. That GC was awful in every possible way.

We have 5 bathrooms and despite asking them to use the powder room, the painters took it upon themselves to use every single bathroom - even in bedrooms they were not supposed to paint. They left the seats up and urine on the rim and on the floor.

I seriously don't understand. Is this what they do at home?

Now I lock the bathrooms except for the powder room. We do not use it at all when the workers are here. I let them see how filthy they leave it and I clean it once a week or so but it pisses me off.

My brother is a builder.

It’s insane some people don’t let workers use their bathroom. Pathetic actually.

So far, no one asked but we would let them.

Our house is small so we don’t really have a master bath or guest bath, and we still would let them.

You sound mentally unstable.

I am a contractor technically because I work for an architecture firm. We have been meeting clients outside their home recently for some clients. We have been inside those homes previously. Sometimes we are there for many hours supervising certain things. Even in pre covid times I did not impose on a client and ask them to use the bathroom and with covid I definitely wouldn't.

What is trashy is to be so inconsiderate of others and so judgmental. You never know whether someone in the house has had a kidney transplant and is vulnerable to covid because the vaccine doesn't work on them or they have religious reasons for not wanting to get vaccinated or other things are going on. I think it's okay for contractors to ask but I also think people should be understanding not be upset or think anyone is rude if they say they prefer not.

One of my friends did not allow contractors to use the bathroom because she had an elderly relative in hospice at her home and it's a very small, very open house.

Yea, if you don’t they will pee on your tree.
I have witnessed it. For the record, they were welcome to use my bathroom but when lunch was done someone just …

No I don’t. After the contractor asked then spent 15 minutes in there with a #2. No. We live very near public toilets. If there was a health issue double no way. There is a lot of renovation on our street and no one else does either.

This is just not something I want to deal with. I just say no. But they don’t ask.
