We all know what China means- cheap components, low standards. I would let my kid play with a Chinese toy and not ride in a China-car, either. |
| Apparently they have geishas at the dealership as greeters. |
| People buy Mercedes because they want people to think they have more money than they do. Volvo buyers don’t care what you think. Toyota Land Cruiser buyers have more money than both. |
Lol! No self respecting person would be caught dead in a toyota |
Toyota Land Cruiser buyers have the highest income vs any other vehicle. It’s not just "a Toyota" like you seem to think. That’s the point, you think real money drives a Mercedes. They don’t. |
How much was it? |
| Land cruisers are incredible. |
Meh- they killed it when they put the tundra v8 in it. |
Mercedes, like Land/Range Rovers are junk. |
We bought Memorial Day weekend and it was 68k. I think that they are harder to get now. There is also a $5200 tax credit when we file next year. Another cost was the EV charger we had installed. That is optional as you can just plug it into an outlet if you want. We like the fast charger though because we want to be able to keep it charged throughout the day. |
| Volvo and Saab owners live longer than other car owners |
My problem with Chinese goods and Communist control of companies is not racist, it’s based upon a lack of faith in regulation, oversight, and incentives for manufacturers to produce safe and reliable goods. If they shipped a Chinese car, liberals wouldn’t ride in it because they would think it’s unsafe and conservatives would deride it as an import akin to Hitlers VW. Buying Volvo was smart of Geeley, how hands on are they? Is it design, development, and engineering all still done in Sweden? Or have they incorporated Geeley supply and product lines into their production? PP says they are handling better than Ford, innovating in what way? |
That’s a bias of the owners themselves. Safety conscious and wealthy and already older (so you won’t have young deaths bringing down average) |
I wouldn't mind tooling around in a Saab or getting my hands on a Land Cruiser. They are hard to come by. Volvo is a deliberate choice and says you did not opt for a Pilot or Highlander or their "flashier" counterparts. I personally like Ford SUVs a lot and have had good luck with them. |
I don’t think being a “car enthusiast” equates with any sort of status. The people I know who are really into cars fell into money (like inheritance or good timing with a stock offering) and/or having a midlife crisis and seeking some sort of symbol to make them feel special. I can’t imagine getting excited over an object as basic as a car. If you spend enough of your life in a car to be an enthusiast about what you drive, then you’re probably boring. |
