Cold feet and unexplained infertility

Anonymous
I have always had cold feet. Literally. I have no children, but had a mc last year and the one thing I remember is my cold cold feet that day.
Fast forwarding to 2015, I still struggle with cold feet, even during the summer I need some socks! So, I started acupuncture and she told me that cold feet means cold uterous and ovaries... Wtf? And that I should always keep my feet warm in order to get and stay pregnant. Is that BS?
Am I going through IVF when I really just had to keep my feet warm?

What's your tsh? Maybe you are hypothyroid. Tsh should be 1-2 for optimal fertility.

it"s BS.

I have no idea if it is BS as I am not educated in alternative medicines. I also did accupuncture while doing ivf and they also put a heater directed to the bottom of my feet. Since I was already accepting that accupuncture might help my IF, I also didn't question the use of heat to facilitate warmth and blood circulation. I used alternative medicine so assist with the IVF, but not to supplement it. She also suggested "warm" spices, like cinnamon, ginger and cumin, which I did start to incorporate into my life because - why not?

My suggestion - if you are going to adopt some forms of alternative medicine to assist with your IF, then you might as well adopt easy suggested actions if they don't otherwise interfere with your life. If time and money are on your side, then I guess you could stop pursuing IVF and just try accupuntuncture, warm feet and probably herbal remedies. I had neither the time nor the money to put of IVF to explore other options.

My acupuncturist told me the same thing and in addition to keeping my feet warm she also told me to give up my beloved smoothies and iced coffee!! I did scale back on cold drinks or make an effort to at least drink a warm beverage (tea) etc. while drinking a smoothie. Happy to say that I did have a successful pregnancy with the help of clomid. Good luck, OP.

Voodoo aside, you may have blood circulation issues that affect your reproductive system. I am just guessing here, but I am not hot on alternative medicine and tend to look for a rational explanation.

Cold extremities(feet, hands, nose) are sign of some deficiency, I dont recollect exactly what, but could be linked to infertility. Not the fact that you have cold feet, but the underlying cause for cold feet could be same cause for infertility. Mention to your doctor.

This. We tried for years, and the doc always told me my TSH was normal. We switched endo's and he thought it was worth trying Synthroid to get my TSH down (it was a 3 something at the time) Low and behold, pregnant a few months later with a TSH of 1.2.

Also, my take is that acupuncture and warm socks can't hurt.

Also have cold feet and unexplained infertility. Interesting.

I have this also and have had 2 miscarriages out of 5 ivf/fet transfers. I have started doing a hot foot soak every night at the recommendation of a new acupuncturist and it feels amazing! Not sure if it will help my infertility but it helps me feel warmer and sleep better.

Do those with cold feet exercise regularly? EXercise is what gets the circulation going. I would think that would be far more beneficial than some stupid socks.

I'm the PP that wrote about the smoothies. Yes, I'm a runner and exercise very regularly. Feet are still cold.

Like others have asked - have you had your thyroid checked? Even if TSH and other levels are normal, you could still have something like Hashimoto's. You might consider getting someone to test your antibodies; it took going to an ND for me to finally get diagnosed and treated.

Now I am being treated for both Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and hypothyroidism. One of my primary signals that things are off is cold, painful feet. My last 3 miscarriages? All symptoms of Hashi's came flying back upon implantation -- particularly the cold, cold feet and I miscarried by week 6. Finally have an appt to see an RE now, as there is a particular protocol for Hashimoto's/Hypo women that can be helpful.

LIke others have said - the cold feet stick around even when exercising. I go to what should be super sweaty vinyasa yoga classes, but I come out with barely a glimmer of sweat on my face AND freezing feet while most others have sweat pooled around their mats. I've practiced yoga for 15 years and prior to thyroid issues, I'd have been drenched in any of these classes.
