Every police shooting is investigated. In the past, all ICE shootings have been investigated. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. The handling of Renee Good's case is different in these ways: *The DOJ has there is "currently no basis" to open a criminal civil rights investigation into the shooting, a sharp departure from previous administrations. *Local authorities were immediately excluded from accessing evidence or case materials and Noem claimed local authorities "don't have any jurisdiction." *Before internal investigations were complete, high-ranking officials, including Trump and Noem, publicly defended the agent’s actions as "self-defense" and labeled the incident an "act of domestic terrorism." That's hugely unprecedented. *The focus of the federal inquiry has shifted from investigating the shooter to investigating Good's partner and local officials (Walz and Frey). |
Thank you. It's almost like we're living under an authoritarian regime. |
One of the reasons he got out unscathed was because a random young black man escorted him out, because he’s just a much better person. |
| Oh, we are going to get to the investigation. |
Great. So ... next is court of law, right? Where the evidence in question gets presented and evaluated in a systematic way, rather than just hearsay? That'd be great. |
