Couch to 5K

I'm really out of shape. Was this helpful?

Yes, it's a great program. Start slow. If you want to repeat some workout, you can definitely do that. Do at your own pace. The program is just a suggestion of workout you should do to get you to running a 5k.

Definitely do it!!

Do it! I'm on Week 8 and it feels so great. I'm 56 and I have never run before in my life. When I started it was agony to get through one minute of running, and now I can run for 25 minutes straight. I started before the holidays and just went slowly, repeating a workout here and there when I had missed a bunch of days.

Yeah! That's how I got into running. It helps you build endurance so you can actually run!

Yes. Around week 4, sign up for,a 5k just to keep yourself honest. I'm doing it again after baby #2. It helped get the weight off and was the least time intensive but gets me put of the house.

Sadly am on kind of a Break with the weather but I like it.

You lost the weight just by doing the walking/running couch to 5K combination 3 times per week? I really want to get started but it's too cold me for me to run outside.

Couple layers and your good to go running in this cold weather.

Get some under armour/nike hyperwarm gear and you will be running year round. Also, some nice warm gloves.

I ran Monday night when it was 28 (19 with the wind chill) and I was sweating like a champ at the end of my run.

It's true that it's really not that bad out if you are layered up and the wind isn't howling. Also, check out the group Moms Run This Town (they have chapters all over the place-- I belong to the Alexandria/Arlington Chapter). Each chapter has a facebook page. Join up, take a look around and there will ALWAYS be someone to run with you, no matter your pace. Our chapter does a few C25k groups each year-- it's how I got back into it after baby #2 and now I'm training to run a half in March!

I love it. I was someone who never ran, in fact I had always found a reason to get a gym pass in school. But when I was around 30, I decided to give it a go. Within 6 months, I was able to run 10 miles without a problem. It is an amazing program that really eases you into it. In fact, I am doing it again now, after realizing that my knees needed to ease back into running after ACL surgery (the problem was unrelated to running). I highly recommend the Get Running app, as it does a great job with cues, making it easier logistically than the last time I did it.
