Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Scenarios 1 and 3 take a section of Fox Mill Estates (a portion of which is literally on the same street as Fox Mill ES) and move them to Crossfield. So, basically they are removing a bunch of kids who walk to the school to fit in those additional Floris neighborhoods. |

Just as idiotic as taking the Oak Hill Elem section of Franklin Farm and splitting it off--just a few streets out. Makes no sense. Wonder how much these people got paid. |
Look, someone has to move. It also doesn't make sense to move that area of Centreville to Westfield. But you're OK with that, right? Anyone other than your kids, right? I loathe that this process has turned into whoever throws the loudest tantrum like a little 2 year old gets whatever they want. |
Which street did you use in Lees Corner? My "random street" was Picket's Post Road. Why do you keep throwing out non-sequitors? You sound foolish. If you can't admit that 7 miles is farther away than 4 miles (a fact we all know to be true), you are going to have a tough time making a coherent argument to FCPS. |
You don't move a neighborhood that is right next door to a school that is more than five miles away. You cannot see that? Lobby for your neighborhood. Stay at Centreville. Westfield will still have plenty of kids and Centreville will still be overcrowded. |

Don't forget about this sweetie, https://www.fcps.edu/centreville-high-capital-project |
This is factually incorrect. The "Striped Area" is hundreds of kids, most of the kids who attend Bull Run ES.. There are a lot of townhouses and a large apartment complex in those striped areas, and a lesser number of SFHs. Its a lot of kids they are trying to move. Because its a lot of ELL and working class families, FCPS will probably move them over the LC whiners, but I agree with pp that its not fair to send these kids twice as far away when there are closer neighborhoods like LC that can and should be moved. |
Sure, you can, if you have to fill that farther away school. Lots of boundaries all over FCPS are drawn like that. Sucks but those are the breaks. Its clear from the maps that to get enough kids at Westfield to replace all the Skyview rezones, they either need that Bull Run area, or Lees Corner. The smaller portion of CHS they are moving which is part of Cub Run is not enough bodies to move the needle. |
| Do kids from the Lees Corner neighborhoods cross Route 50 on foot to get to Chantilly HS? Just wondering |
Are the Floris changes coupled with the Coates changes in the County Wide RD intended to delay/eliminate construction of the Silver Line ES? |
What is incorrect? Are you quoting the wrong post? You address nothing in my post and talk about Bull Run, which we appear to hold the same position on. |
Yes, they do. Saw some walking in the rain today. Frankly, it's probably faster to bus to Westfield than to walk 1.5 miles to Chantilly for some of them. |
DP. Looking at these draft scenarios, all three of the scenarios have Centreville at 86% utilization or slightly over 1800 kids after CVHS kids move to either Chantilly (Scenario 1) or Westfield (Scenarios 2 and 3). How on earth do they continue to justify a major expansion of Centreville anticipating something like this? |
