I hear through the grapevine that Bowser is changing the latest approved boundaries in order to benefit Crestwood. But what sense would it make to do so? If that happens, why not do the same with other areas west of the park that have been excluded from Deal? And why not other areas east of the park that are actually closer to the school?
Again, it is just a rumor at this point, but something to pay attention to. I hope the new major doesn't fall under old cronyism. |

The Chancellor sent out enrollment projections to schools a month ago, which supposedly took the new boundaries into account. So those are all going to be off now?
I hope someone attending the Chancellor's budget meeting tomorrow will ask about this. |
Crestwood is her base. Yes, it's unfair, given the proxmity of those other neighborhoods to Deal and the fact that they have fed to Deal for decades (longer than anyone can remember). |
I wouldn't put much faith in that rumor, unfortunately. Boundary changes require a one-year notice. There is not enough time to announce new changes before Gray's changes take effect. Also, Deal's boundary is the combined boundaries of its feeder schools. Crestwood is not located in a feeder so either a feeder's boundaries would have to be changed or West and Powell would have to turned into Deal feeders (or a boundary and a feeder change would be required, etc.). I don't see any of that happening at this point. At best, the grandfathering will be extended. If Unicorn's funding just got diverted to the new Males of Color High School, that would happen anyway. |
| Would John Boehner be able to attend the Males of Color High School? |
I've been wondering how the Chancellor's 2015 goal of focusing on high schools would square with then mayor elect Bowser's goal of new stand alone middle schools. I guess we're seeing who wears the pants in that relationship. Middle schools are still the missing link in DC and mayor elect had the right idea, but she's likely going to roll over to the Chancellor. And as for the males of color school...I think more and better guidance counselors and truancy officers would likely be a better first step then diving headlong into a segregated school. But what do I know? |
This. Dance with the one that brought you. I think you can see a similar dynamic with her hesitance around a bus lane on 16th street. |
For what I saw, there wasn't a lot of support for Bowser from Crestwood. I saw a lot of support for Catania. Did polling numbers show otherwise? |
Bowser received 55% and 58% of the votes from the two precincts that include parts of Crestwood. These precincts also include areas outside of Crestwood. But, based just on those numbers, many other parts of the city are stronger for her. |
Just mayor, not mayor elect. |
And she lost Ward 3. Big time. |
Crestwood has also fed to Deal for decades. Crestwood and Woodley Park are equidistant to Deal. In addition, Woodley Park already has a middle school. Eaton and Woodley Park will both continue to feed to middle schools with strong reputations. Where would Crestwood feed that would compare? |
Sorry, but no one in Cleveland Park or Woodley Park believes for a minute that Hardy MS has a strong reputation. Indeed, hardly anyone WOTP sends their children there. Folks who had a decent middle school are being herded to what by comparison is an inferior one. You can't sugar coat that. |
Sure. Unless he changes gender, of course. Yes? |
