Where will Lee Montessori go?

Anonymous
This question may be way out of my league but I'll ask it anyways.

Do you know where Lee Montessori will go after they move out of Inspired teaching? I know that they have a 1 mile "ideal" to go to but... do you "suspect" of a building they might occupy? Have you heard anything?

Thank you!

OP, I would not count anything that you hear as rumor, and assume that the commute you may have to make to Lee will not work for you when you rank. We applied and got into Bridges when people said they would almost certainly be moving to Sharpe (which is right near the school's current location). Well, DCPS decided to hold onto Sharpe, and now Bridges is moving to NE, a commute that does not work for us, so we're stuck playing the lottery again. I understand completely why some people don't apply to schools that don't have a permanent location.

They don't plan to move until 2016. They have a building in mind, but have not been able to sign a lease yet. It's within a mile of the current location.

(Also they have not shared where, though it's not difficult to make some guesses).

Care to share some guesses for those not familiar with the area?

As far as speculation goes, my guess is that they're looking at some of the buildings located along the RR tracks that extend roughly from the Rhode Island Ave metro station to the Brookland station. There are a number of other charters located in that stretch now, and there are a number of larger buildings that could be converted to school uses. I don't have any actual information, just a hunch.

I take the promises to stay within a certain area, and that they have a space already in mind, with a grain of salt. I believe the school administrators intend to do so, but as we've seen with other charters, competition for space is fierce. It's my belief that LL's know they have the upper hand in these negotiations when a school has committed but no lease is yet signed, and shop the possible lease around to the other prospective tenants (including other schools) at the last minute. So I'm not counting any real estate chickens before they're hatched ...

I am concerned about outdoor play space in their new location.

Hmm. On 8th street? There's not a lot of vacant property there.

The space they are looking at isn't currently vacant. That's why they have not announced it, or signed up. But apparently it is currently used as a charter school and they are planning to move. There are a couple of other spots that meet the criteria too.

However, as nothing is finalized yet, they are also looking at all possibilities.

It'll be a priority for the school, so I'm not concerned.

Nearby charters. So that could be DC Prep, Hope, LAMB, Lighthouse. Any I'm missing?

Maybe now but they have been saying they have a space in mind well before the charter board announced revoking CAPCS' charter.

Ok, so what are the "several" other charters within a mile? 2 Rivers? KIPP? CAPCS? Mundo Verde? Are any of those within a mile? What others are there? Come on, people. This is the speculation thread!
