What do you think of the name Ellie?

Sigh. I always thought I'd name baby girl Ava, until I saw the name Ellie in my baby book. DH was okay with Ava since I loved it, but he fell in love with Ellie. We would name her Ella for resume purposes, but call her Ellie. Do you think it sounds country or southern? When I told my family, they hated it. My mom joked it reminded her of the tv show Beverly Hillbillies. Our last name ends in -ley so is that too rhymey? Just want to hear other people's thoughts. She's either going to be an Ava or Ella "Ellie."

I know an Ellie (whose an adult!) whose full name is Eleanor. I think it's cute.

My 8 year-old niece is just Ellie- not a nick-name for anything and I think it's really cute.

Cute, but really, really popular.

I like it. My cousin and his wife named their daughter Elle and call her Ellie. If you're worried about the first name last name combo, just say it aloud to yourself a few time in a row.

And this is why I don't tell our family our name options.

Super cute. I know one, short for Eleanor. I love it. Also, I have an Evelyn and we may end up calling her Ellie rather than Evie, just because my son does, so full disclosure.

I told him not to tell his family, and now look what happened when spilled the beans to mine
I can't decide if I like Elle or Ella better with a -ley last name.

I know two Ellies. I don't love it. Very popular and cutesy.

I'd go with Ava over Ellie. Also popular. But not cutesy, at least.

I know a bunch of Ellies, none of whom are Southern.

It's getting popular if that's important to you. Not a fan. Agree with others it sounds southern to me. Like a cow.

My son is Elliot and we call him Ellie sometimes (he has lots of nicknames)

It makes me think of an elephant. There is some kid's show where the elephant is named Ellie.

I also know an Ellie who is Eleanor.

Or you could use Ellen. I like that name too.
