What do you think of the name Ellie?

Love it, and also love Elle (which would be a good transition into adulthood).

It's cute but so overused. When my daughter was in a playgroup, out of 8 kids, 4 were Ellies, a mix of Ella, Elle, Eleanor but all called Ellie.

If you really want that nickname, personally, I like Ellen.

What about Ellery?

Op here: I don't like Ellen. It just feels a bit old to me. I like Ellery, but our last name is R---ley, so that's a heck of a lot of Rs in there lol.

It's a very lovely name. A lot of people agree with you, because there are quite a few Ellas and Ellies. It wouldn't stop me from using it, but hopefully its popularity should shut up critics in your family.

I know several people on the West Coast who gave their daughters this name, so yeah, it's not a Southern thing. Whatever that means!

I think of the singer, Ellie Goulding.

Assuming your name is along the lines of Riley -- Ellie Riley is a lot too. Ella Riley is better, IMO.

Also, I think Eva is lovely- and not that common, despite the popularity of Ava.

Eva Riley?

I love it - I have a friend named Ellie who is an Eliza.

OP here: Last name may be Presley. So, I'm concerned about Ellie Presley-Elvis Presley or am I thinking too hard

There's already an Elyse and an Elena in the family so those got nixed.

DH also loves Olive.

I know a child with a name like Ellie Presley, and apparently people do make occasional Elvis Presley comments, but life goes on just fine anyway.

I LOVE that name and have ever since I saw Contact (with Jodie Foster) as a science-minded preteen.

So for those ppl who say it's cutesy, try telling that to Carl Sagan. If you get important enough for a cutesy name to be an obstacle, you can just demand that people call you "Dr. Lastname" anyway

In this case, I really don't like it then. I did like the suggestion of Ellen, but with all the other El names? Nope.

And Ellery? What?

I like the Eva idea. Or maybe Evie?

I'd go with Ava over Ellie. Also popular. But not cutesy, at least.

This. Cutesey or hillbilly/cow/elephant as many have pointed out. At least Ava has a bit of glamour to it. As does Elena, Helene, etc.
